POSITION DESCRIPTION
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Captain will serve as a key member of the Saltleaf Marina team, responsible for the safe and professional operation of Saltleaf Solstice, a 47’ USCG-inspected Cooper Catamaran serving the Ritz-Carlton Residences Estero Bay and Saltleaf Estero Bay. In addition to the Solstice, the Captain will operate and maintain other vessels within the Saltleaf Marina Fleet as assigned. This position ensures all operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and U.S. Coast Guard regulations while delivering an exceptional guest experience on the water. When not operating the boat, the Captain will be asked to work in the Ship store assisting customers with purchases, maintains store appearance, and ensures accurate transactions.
- Serve as Captain for Saltleaf Solstice and other Saltleaf Marina Fleet vessels.
- Operate all vessels in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard and company standards.
- Oversee voyage activities, including safety checks, pre-departure inspections, and post-trip documentation.
- Maintain vessel logs, safety gear, and communication systems.
- Supervise crew during operations and ensure safe passenger handling.
- Coordinate fueling, maintenance, and scheduling with the Dockmaster and service vendors.
- Assist with marina activities including docking support, guest service, and daily operations.
- Support training and safety program implementation for marina and vessel operations.
- Lead interpretive excursions, private charters, and special events as assigned.
Customer Service & Sales
- Greet customers and assist with product selection and purchases
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems accurately, including cash and credit transactions
- Answer questions about store products, marina amenities, and services
- Handle returns and exchanges in accordance with store policies
- Perform other duties as assigned to support ship store operation
Other related duties as requested and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma required.
Mandatory Experience/Background: A minimum of 3 years of experience operating passenger or charter vessels. Minimum 50-Ton USCG Master License (100-Ton preferred). Valid TWIC Card and current First Aid/CPR certification. APCA Drug Consortium. Proven leadership, crew management, and communication skills. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and evenings. Strong customer service skills and positive attitude, basic math skills and attention to detail.
Desired Experience/Background: Strong knowledge of USCG compliance, navigation, and local waterways (Estero Bay / Gulf of America (formerly Gulf of Mexico). Prior retail or customer service experience, familiarity with POS systems, interest in boating, marine products, or hospitality environments.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for long periods of time, with exposure to the weather elements. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must have a valid drivers license; Must maintain all physical and licensing standards required by the U.S. Coast Guard.
