The Position: We are seeking an EHS Technician who will own compliance and safety programs including environmental health and safety systems, waste management, personal protective equipment administration, and regulatory compliance. This critical role ensures the organization maintains the highest standards of workplace safety and environmental stewardship while meeting all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements . The ideal candidate combines technical knowledge of EHS regulations with practical implementation skills to create and sustain a culture of safety across all manufacturing operations and onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as safety lead for the facility, conducting regular safety inspections, workplace hazard assessments, and risk analyses to identify and mitigate potential safety concerns.
- Implement and maintain security systems including access control, visitor management, and facility security protocols to protect personnel, property, and sensitive areas.
- Work directly with EHS consultant companies when required.
- Manage environmental compliance programs for steel manufacturing operations .
- Administer residuals and waste management programs including hazardous waste handling, storage, labeling, and disposal in accordance with EPA and state environmental regulations.
- Oversee personal protective equipment (PPE) management including assessment of PPE needs, procurement, distribution, training on proper use, and maintenance of PPE inventory.
- Coordinate occupational health programs including hearing conservation, and workplace exposure monitoring to protect employee health.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs including new employee safety orientation, OSHA compliance training, emergency response procedures, and job-specific safety training including and not limited to crane, forklift, riggers, shear cutting.
- Conduct incident investigations for workplace injuries, near-misses, and environmental events to determine root causes and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain EHS documentation including safety data sheets (SDS), training records, inspection logs, incident reports, and regulatory compliance records.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, EPA environmental requirements, and other applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations including OSHA standards applicable to manufacturing environments
- Understanding of environmental regulations including EPA hazardous waste requirements, air quality standards, and water discharge permits
- Demonstrated ability to conduct workplace inspections, identify hazards, and recommend effective control measures to eliminate or reduce risks
- Experience developing and delivering safety training programs that engage employees and drive behavioral safety improvements
- Proficiency in incident investigation methodologies and root cause analysis techniques to prevent recurrence
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with employees at all levels and foster a positive safety culture
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Problem-solving mindset with ability to balance regulatory compliance requirements with operational efficiency
- Demonstrated experience contributing to innovation-focused projects, including development of new products, systems, workflows, or construction methodologies.
- Proven ability to generate and implement innovative ideas, improving design efficiency, constructability, automation, or manufacturing integration.
- Background working in new project development, pilot programs, or early stage project environments where requirements evolve rapidly.
- Comfortable operating in a startup-like or entrepreneurial environment, characterized by fast decision-making, limited precedent, and high ownership.
- Strong collaborator with the ability to communicate and work with cross-functional disciplines, including Engineering, Manufacturing, and Innovation.

Education:
- Associate degree or technical certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred
- High school diploma or GED with extensive relevant experience will be considered
Key Required Competencies and Experience:
- 1-5 years of experience in environmental health and safety roles within manufacturing, industrial, or construction environments
- Hands-on experience implementing EHS management systems, conducting safety audits, and managing compliance programs
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations including General Industry Standards, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout.
- Experience with environmental compliance including hazardous waste management
- First Aid/CPR certification and experience with emergency response planning and drills are a plus
- Experience in steel manufacturing, metal fabrication, or heavy industrial environments is beneficial
- Be able to operate and assemble components, including the use of screwdrivers, sawers and skilsaws.
- Hands-on attitude and willingness to learn new things.
- Open-minded and willing to teach others.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Manufacturing experience, including knowledge of 5S, lean manufacturing, and process flow optimization.
- Sheet metal fabrication experience (rollforming, bending, cutting) preferred.
- 50lb lifting is required

- Excellent spoken and written communication skills. Spanish skills are advantageous.
