Overview
The Longshoreman (General Laborer - TCA) is responsible for the loading, unloading, moving or handling of cargo; (container, bulk, breakbulk, shipping containers, oil barrels, gear, or any other materials / cargo) into, in, on, or out of any vessel and/or train in a responsible, safe and efficient manner. The Longshoreman may preform other duties as instructed and/or assigned by the Gang Foreman.

- Prior experience as a Longshoreman with cargo rigging (lashing/strapping) in a marine terminal or any of the following experience: baggage handling, package handling, manual loading and unloading cargo from trucks, trailers, or railcars.
- Must have the ability to read, write, and speak basic English.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have valid Driver’s License and/or State ID.
- Must have an active Transportation Worker identification Credential (TWIC) Card.
- Dependable & reliable mode of transportation to and from work.
- The ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
- Must be willing to travel, as needed to other locations within Texas (Houston & Brownsville)
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must have the ability to function effectively in a fast paced, team-oriented work environment.

- The employee is constantly required to stand, reach forward, balance, handle objects, operate controls and perform simple and firm hand grasping including twisting and pinching.
- The employee is frequently required to squat, stoop, crouch, kneel, and reach overhead.
- The employee must frequently pull up to 130 pounds, push, pull and lift up to 110 pounds and carry up to 55 pounds.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit (while being lifted in basket), crawl, grasp, exercise eye-hand coordination, exercise repetitive wrist motion.
- The employee is required to talk and hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Reports to Gang Foreman.
- Assist with loading and unloading cargo from vessels, trucks, and rail
- Support inventory counts, tagging, and documentation
- Work closely with checkers, crane operators, and dock supervisors
- Follow all safety protocols and terminal procedures
- Communicates verbally or uses hand signals.
- May instruct Yard Hustler Drivers on specific location to line up Yard Hustler in order for the crane to be able to load or offload the container.
- May be required to communicate via hand held radio.
- May be required to handle tools and/or lashing materials .
- May engage and disengage automatic locks (15-20 lbs.) which are set in between the containers to hold in place during transport and place in gearbox.
- May be required to place or remove dunnage including but not limited to under blades, buckets, or other attachments that would rest on transport surface.
- Must remain clear of moving tracks and attached equipment.
- May use push broom to sweep discarded materials to designated area.
- May place ISO fittings.
- May be required to hook and unhook lifting gear.
