What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barge Personnel position at Logistec?
Overview We are looking to recruit an able-bodied, safety-minded workers to assist our team of longshoremen with loading and unloading of barges. This is an entry level position, and we are willing to train the right people to become part of a specialized workforce. Starting pay is $14 per hour. Candidates are respectful team players, reliable, and are excellent at following instructions and procedures. Responsibilities Attending and participating in safety meetings and training. Ensuring work areas are clean, tidy, and clear of debris and other obstructions. Maintaining awareness of surroundings and potential safety hazards when performing duties. Following barge loading plans and instructions of Supervisors. Preparing cargo for lifting using approved gear. Work 12-hour shifts (4 days on 4 days off) in all weather conditions. Support the safe loading/unloading of cargo to and from barges. Securing steel coils with hardwood chocks. Ensuring compliance with safety procedures and policies. Informing supervisor of damaged or unsafe cargo, and other safety hazards, injury, illness or property damage. Qualifications Able to work 12-hour shifts. Able to work around water. Completion of physical examination. Ability to speak, write and read basic English. Ability to work with minimal supervision, and to follow instructions and procedures. Physically fit, able-bodied, agile and dexterous. Available for standby duty, and to work shifts, over weekends and on public holidays. Undeterred by heights, confined or cluttered spaces, noise, adverse climatic conditions (heavy rain, extreme heat, and extremely cold) and the proximity of moving mechanical parts. #Logistec_us
