Responsibilities
What your day looks like as a Checker:
- Perform general labor duties related to marine terminal and warehouse operations.
- Tally and record cargo loaded onto and discharged from vessels.
- Verify cargo counts, markings, and condition during loading, unloading, and terminal transfers.
- Maintain accurate cargo records and complete tally sheets or electronic documentation.
- Assist with cargo handling, sorting, staging, securing, and movement within the terminal and warehouse.
- Coordinate with supervisors, equipment operators, vessel crews, truck drivers, and warehouse personnel.
- Inspect work areas and cargo for safety hazards or damage and report issues promptly.
- Follow all company safety procedures, port regulations, and operational guidelines.
- Assist with housekeeping and maintaining clean, organized work areas.
- Operate handheld scanners, radios, or basic terminal systems as required.
- Work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
What we're looking for:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in logistics, inventory, or warehouse operations preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use data entry systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow instructions.
- Good communication skills and teamwork mindset.
- Must be able to obtain a TWIC card.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25-50 lbs. occasionally.
