The Role
We’re seeking a Data Science Manager to lead our growing AI product data science function. This is a foundational leadership role focused on building and managing a small team of data scientists developing customer-facing features powered by machine learning and large language models (LLMs).
You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Infrastructure teams to drive experimentation, shape the AI roadmap, and build scalable, production-ready systems. While this is not an individual contributor role, we’re looking for someone with the technical depth to collaborate on modeling and system design, along with the leadership experience to guide a team through execution.
You will play a central role in defining how AI capabilities are embedded into the product and how the team evolves alongside it.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data scientists focused on AI/ML product development
- Guide the design and development of algorithms and models that power customer-facing features
- Foster innovation by encouraging experimentation and improving existing methodologies
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Infrastructure to align priorities and accelerate delivery
- Translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Own prioritization of AI/ML initiatives and manage team capacity
- Drive execution by tracking milestones, mitigating risks, and ensuring high-quality delivery
- Establish strong standards for experimentation, modeling, evaluation, and reliability
- Build lightweight, scalable team processes to support fast iteration
- Conduct performance reviews, coach team members, and support career development
- Contribute to hiring and onboarding efforts
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Data Science
- 2 years of management experience
- 6 years of experience in Data Science or a related technical role
- Strong strategic thinking and project management skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex initiatives with cross-functional stakeholders
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Experience leading through ambiguity and building systems from 0→1
- Advanced understanding of statistics and probability for model development
- Strong experience with SQL and Python
- Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g., AWS) and modern ML workflows
