What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Dog Groomer and Pet Care Team Member position at Local Pet Grooming and Animal Care?
We’re looking for an experienced professional dog groomer to join our growing local boarding and grooming business!
This is a hands-on position for someone who is confident completing full-service dog grooms independently and who genuinely enjoys working with animals and their owners. Along with grooming, this position will also help with our boarding and daycare pets and customer service as needed.
Grooming Responsibilities
Our groomer will be responsible for taking dogs and cats through the entire grooming process independently, including:
- Bathing and drying
- Brushing and de-shedding
- Full haircuts and trims
- Breed-specific and owner-requested styles
- Nail trims
- Basic ear cleaning
- Safely handling dogs of different sizes, breeds, coat types, ages, and temperaments
- Communicating with pet parents about their dog's grooming needs
- Keeping the grooming area clean, organized, and sanitary
- Safely operating and maintaining grooming equipment
Professional grooming experience is required. Applicants must be comfortable completing full-service grooms independently.
Boarding & Daycare
When grooming appointments aren't scheduled, you'll also help care for the pets staying at our facility. Responsibilities may include:
- Caring for boarding dogs and cats
- Feeding pets according to owner instructions
- Supervising daycare and playtime
- Monitoring pets for safety and wellbeing
- Letting dogs outside and providing walks
- Cleaning kennels, play areas, and common areas
- Following feeding, medication, cleaning, and animal-care instructions
- Helping maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for all pets
Customer Service
You'll also help provide a great experience for our customers and their pets by:
- Greeting customers
- Checking pets in and out
- Answering phones
- Scheduling grooming, boarding, and daycare appointments
- Answering customer questions
- Communicating with pet parents about their pets and services
- Processing payments
- Maintaining accurate customer and pet information
Schedule
Our typical operating hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–5:30 PM, but your actual schedule will depend on our grooming appointments, boarding reservations, and daycare needs.
Expected hours are approximately 25–40 hours per week and may vary from week to week.
If we do not have grooming appointments or boarding/daycare pets that require care on a particular day, you may not be scheduled to come in that day.
Occasional weekend hours may also be needed when we have boarding pets, such as letting dogs out and taking them for walks.
We are looking for someone who is flexible and understands that our schedule will grow along with our customer base.

We are a growing local business and want to build a strong, dependable team. As our grooming clientele grows, our goal is to add grooming support, allowing our primary groomer to spend more of their time doing what they do best — grooming!
