A Cashier, or Retail Cashier, is responsible for processing cash, debit, credit and check transactions using a cash register or other point-of-sale system in a retail environment. Their duties include balancing the cash register, making change, recording purchases, processing returns and scanning items for sale.
Cashier duties and responsibilities:
- Process sales transactions. (Take customer orders)
- Calculate the cost of products or services. (Input order into system)
- Accept payments
- Calculate and return change when required by the payment method. (Give customers their money back)
- Answer the business phones and taking call-in orders
- Answer customer questions about products or services
- Smiling and treating all customers with respect
- Report issues with equipment
