What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customs Brokerage Entry Agent position at LM Brokerage and Logistics, Inc.?
Responsibilities
- Compile, review, and prepare documentation for entry processing and release of commercial shipments crossing the U.S.–Mexico border.
- Process import and export clearances for ground shipments, with exposure to air, ocean, and rail as needed.
- Manage remote entry summaries, in-bond movements (IT, T&E, IE), and FTZ-related transactions in compliance with CBP regulations.
- Coordinate with CBP officers (OFO), carriers, warehouses, and customers to resolve holds, exams, VACIS, and documentation discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with USMCA, FDA, EPA, USDA, DOT, and other Partner Government Agencies (PGAs).
- Monitor and manage PGA holds, CBP releases, exams, and post-release corrections as needed.
- Support CTPAT, FAST, and ACE processes and maintain compliance with security and trade programs.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to valuation, classification (HTS), country of origin, and admissibility.
- Provide timely updates to customers regarding border status, delays, inspections, and release timelines.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with regulatory retention requirements.
- Escalate compliance issues, discrepancies, or potential violations to management and compliance teams.
- Continuously work to meet and exceed customer expectations in a high-volume, time-sensitive border environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in U.S. Customs brokerage, import/export operations, or land border logistics (Southern border experience strongly preferred).
- Working knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, entry types (01, 03, 06, 11, etc.), and in-bond procedures.
- Experience with ACE or similar customs brokerage software (Descartes, CargoWise, BluJay, RB Systems, etc.) preferred.
- Familiarity with USMCA documentation, COO requirements, and preference claims.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure border environment.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong problem-solving and follow-through skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and reliability (excellent attendance required).
- Strong customer service mindset with the ability to communicate clearly with importers, carriers, and government agencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (Spanish bilingual proficiency a strong plus/preferred).
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, email, and PC-based systems.
- Ability to handle sensitive trade compliance information with confidentiality.
Nice-to-Have / Preferred
- Experience working with border crossings (Laredo, Otay Mesa, El Paso, Nogales, Brownsville, etc.).
- Familiarity with truck manifests, eManifests, PARS/PAPS, and carrier coordination.
- Exposure to broker audits, post-entry corrections (PSC), protests, and reconciliation.
- CTPAT/FAST operational knowledge.
- Knowledge of duty drawback, bonded warehouses, and FTZ operations.
Work Environment
- High-volume, time-critical operations with strict cutoff times.
- Frequent coordination with carriers, warehouses, CBP, and customers.
- Requires flexibility to support peak border volumes and operational surges.
