Position Summary
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for supporting key Human Resources functions with a primary focus on payroll administration and employee relations. This role serves as a trusted resource for employees and leaders by ensuring payroll is processed accurately, workplace concerns are addressed professionally and consistently, and employee benefits are administered efficiently. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, maintains confidentiality, and has experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees in a fast paced environment.
Essential Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time.
- Review payroll changes including new hires, promotions, compensation changes, bonuses, and terminations.
- Audit payroll data to ensure compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Reconcile payroll discrepancies and respond to employee payroll inquiries.
- Partner with Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and reporting.
- Maintain payroll records and documentation.
Employee Relations
- Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers regarding workplace concerns, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct employee relations investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
- Partner with leaders on performance management, coaching, corrective action, and conflict resolution.
- Support employee engagement and retention initiatives that foster a positive workplace culture.
- Ensure consistent application of company policies and employment practices.
- Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee matters.
- Provide guidance to leaders on employee performance, attendance, and workplace issues involving both hourly and salaried employees.
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, qualifying life events, and annual open enrollment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit questions.
- Coordinate with benefit vendors and ensure accurate employee eligibility.
Human Resources Administration
- Maintain employee records and HRIS data integrity.
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding activities.
- Support HR compliance, reporting, and audits.
- Ensure adherence to employment laws and company policies.
- Participate in HR projects and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Strong payroll processing experience required. (ADP preferred)
- Demonstrated employee relations experience supporting both hourly and salaried employees.
- Working knowledge of employee benefits administration.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems such as ADP, UKG, Paycom, or similar platforms.
- Healthcare industry experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of payroll administration and employment laws.
- Experience handling employee relations matters with professionalism and discretion.
- Working knowledge of employee benefits administration.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
Work Environment
This position is onsite five days per week at the company's Birmingham, Alabama office. Regular in person collaboration with employees and leaders is an essential function of the role.
