RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of the written test:

  • Livingston County, or
  • One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming

The work involves responsibility for working directly with the elderly to assess needs, provide information, and direct clients to appropriate services.  An Aging Services Caseworker Assistant also makes eligibility determinations relating to programs administered by the Office for the Aging.  Work is performed in the office and in the field.  Supervision of others is not a responsibility of this class.  The work is performed under the general supervision of the Case Manager and/or the Aging Services Caseworker.  An Aging Services Caseworker Assistant does related work as assigned.
  • Assesses client needs using appropriate program assessment tools;
  • Provides essential information regarding available services and various governmental programs;
  • Provides assistance to caregivers in accessing services and programs;
  • Makes referrals to outside agencies and recommends clients for services, if appropriate;
  • Assists clients or their delegates in completing applications for aging services programs, benefits and entitlements as needed;
  • Initiates eligibility determinations for programs administered by the Office for the Aging;
  • Makes home visits in response to referral requests from individual older persons, their delegates, or other community agencies;
  • Maintains required client service records; and
  • Performs other related duties as directed.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:  Knowledge of the needs and interests of older persons; knowledge of community agencies and resources which benefit the elderly; good organizational skills; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to get along with others; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to make eligibility determinations consistent with established procedures and criteria; ability to enter and move within private residences; sensitivity to the needs and reactions of others; physical condition commensurate with demands of position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment:

Training/Education 

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s[1] degree.
  • Graduation from a nursing education program acceptable to the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
  • Possession of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma.

General experience 

  • None required.
  • One (1) year of full-time, paid experience as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Four (4) years of full-time, paid experience in one or more of the following:     social casework; social work in a community or social action program; teaching in an accredited school; or as a community services worker or case aide in a human services agency.

Supervisory experience 

  • N.A.

License/ Certification 

  • Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license.
  • Licensed by New York State to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse; AND
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license.

Part-time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements.

NOTE:  Qualifications are mandated by 9 NYCRR §6654.16.



SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Applicants appointed under Option 2 must maintain appropriate professional licensure in good standing throughout employment.
  2. Appropriate driving license must be maintained throughout employment.
  3. A driving record evidencing safe and responsible vehicle operation is required.  
  4. Must authorize and execute any necessary releases to enable the appointing authority to verify licensure and driving history involving violations and/or crimes.

PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE:
An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis. Questions regarding provisional appointments should be directed to the Livingston County Human Resources Department.

NOTE: Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position. However, Livingston County residents will be given preference in the hiring process.
