What are the responsibilities and job description for the Caseworker position at Steuben County Department of Social Services?
The work involves responsibility for the provision of aging or social work services to individuals and/or their families to assist them with their aging, economic, emotional, social, and environmental difficulties. The work is carried out in accordance with modern, sound, well accepted aging/ social casework practices and procedures and involves interviewing individuals and families to determine areas where assistance is needed; developing case plans to meet identified needs; providing counseling and other services either directly or by referral; assessing effectiveness of developed plans and modifying them as needed; and performing record keeping associated with cases. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Senior Caseworker or Case Supervisor with leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in developing and carrying out plans in individual cases. Direct assistance may be received from a Senior Caseworker or Case Supervisor in unusual or especially difficult cases. Direct supervision may be exercised over the activities of subordinate paraprofessional and/or clerical personnel. Assignments made to employees in this class will require access to transportation to meet field work requirements made in the ordinary course of business in a timely and efficient manner. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree;
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of appropriate-level NYS Driver License is required at time of appointment and must be maintained throughout the time of service in this classification.
