Primary Job Function: 

The Reynoldsburg City Schools Library Educational Aide is responsible for supporting the instructional and operational functions of the school library. This position provides assistance to students and staff in accessing library resources, reinforcing basic library skills, supporting academic instruction, and maintaining an organized, safe, and welcoming library environment in support of the district’s educational program.

 Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio Educational Aide Permit
  • ESEA Designation: A valid ESEA (Highly Qualified) credential is required for all positions within Title I Elementary buildings (requires Associate Degree, 48 semester hours, or a passing score of 456 on the ParaPro Assessment). 
  • Experience working with students and teachers on academic content standards
  • Experience supporting students with grade-level proficiency assessments or academic interventions
  • Ability to successfully pass required criminal background checks 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience working in a school library or instructional support setting
  • Familiarity with library management systems and educational technology
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with disabilities

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. Instructional & Student Support

  • Assists students by presenting lessons on library usage, research basics, and appropriate care of materials.
  • Provides individual or small-group support to students during library activities or instructional time.
  • Assists students with varying physical, intellectual, and behavioral needs in accordance with district guidelines.

Library Resource Access & Support

  • Supports students and staff in locating information within the library collection and through digital and computer-based resources.
  • Assists students and staff with the use of computers, technology tools, and digital learning resources available in the library.

Circulation & Inventory Management

  • Checks library materials in and out to students and staff using established procedures and systems.
  • Runs and distributes overdue notices and fine lists as directed.
    Assists with inventories of library materials, textbooks, and equipment.

Collection Maintenance & Organization

  • Shelves, organizes, and repairs books and periodicals to maintain an orderly and accessible library collection.
  • Maintains the physical organization, cleanliness, and appearance of the library space.

Clerical & Operational Support

  • Prepares, types, and processes requisitions, reports, records, and other library-related documentation.
  • Operates office and library equipment including computers, printers, copiers, and laminating machines.
  • Maintains accurate records, logs, and documentation related to library operations.

Student Supervision & Environment Management

  • Assists in maintaining student discipline, order, and safety within the library environment.
  • Responds to student behavioral situations in a calm, professional, and effective manner.

Communication & Professional Collaboration

  • Communicates professionally and effectively with students, staff, parents, and administrators.
  • Works collaboratively with the school librarian, teachers, and administrators to support instructional goals.

Other Assigned Duties

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator or librarian.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • General English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Basic mathematics
  • Library procedures and organization
  • Student confidentiality requirements (FERPA)

 

Skilled in: 

  • Google Suite or Microsoft Office and basic computer applications
  • Operating standard office and library equipment
  • Exercising tact, discretion, and professionalism when interacting with students, parents, and staff
  • Oral reading and assisting students individually or in small groups

 

Ability to: 

  • Interact positively with students to maintain discipline, order, and safety
  • Handle behavioral situations calmly and effectively
  • Support students with diverse learning, physical, and behavioral needs
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare written reports or logs
  • Follow written and verbal instructions
  • Lift and carry boxes of books and supplies
  • Bend, stoop, reach, and stand or walk for extended periods of time

Physical Demands: 

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and moving throughout the school day.
  • Ability to transition rapidly from floor to standing position.
  • Push, pull, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally (e.g., student transfers or crisis intervention).
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Exposure to high-sensory environments (loud noises, bright lights).
  • Interaction with students exhibiting challenging or aggressive behaviors.
  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissue.

 

Driving Requirement:

  • This position may require driving.
