Solar Service Technician
We are seeking a Solar Service Technician for the Charleston area. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining residential and commercial solar PV systems. You’ll respond to service calls, troubleshoot performance issues, implement corrective actions, and ensure that every system you touch operates safely and efficiently. You will represent Live Oak Energy Systems in the field, delivering a great customer experience while keeping safety and quality at the forefront.
Key Job Duties:
- Respond to residential and commercial solar service calls and warranty claims
- Diagnose and repair issues with inverters, optimizers, modules, monitoring equipment, and balance-of-system components
- Troubleshoot electrical and system communication issues to restore system performance
- Perform preventive maintenance, system checkups, and production verification on existing solar PV systems
- Perform minor mechanical work as needed (module swaps, racking adjustments, cable management, etc.)
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with NEC, local codes, manufacturer specifications, and Live Oak Energy Systems standards
- Work with Project Managers, Operations, and homeowners to plan and complete necessary repairs, upgrades, and system improvements
- Coordinate with local Inspectors and utilities when corrective work requires inspection or re-approval
- Keep accurate records of work performed, parts used, test results, and photos in the company work order/CRM systems
- Maintain high-quality control of tools, vehicles, and materials used for service work
- Maintain compliance with all PPE and safety regulations per OSHA and Live Oak Energy Systems solar standards
- Perform other related duties as requested by leadership
Necessary Skills and Experience:
- 5 years’ experience with solar or electrical installations, troubleshooting, and repair
- Strong experience diagnosing and resolving DC and AC electrical issues in residential solar systems
- Understanding of wire and conduit sizing, as well as how to make adjustments for environmental and load factors
- Ability to read and interpret solar plan sets, including structural layouts, single line drawings, electrical schematics, and permitting notes
- Comfortable using a volt meter and other electrical test equipment safely and correctly
- Working knowledge and experience with residential electrical services, subpanels, and breakers
- Experience with solar monitoring platforms (e.g., inverter portals, optimizers, or third‑party monitoring) is a plus
- Ability to follow instructions and performance guidelines while working independently in the field
- Must be willing and able to work in high places (most systems are rooftop mounted)
- Strong communication and customer service skills when interacting with homeowners

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
