Position Summary / Objective
The Technical Product Specialist - Lighting is responsible for system design, and engineering of lighting systems. The specialist will work closely with internal teams as well as external production managers, technical directors, and other individuals to provide the highest quality product to clients of Live Events. Success in this role requires both deep technical expertise and a solutions-focused, customer-service mindset in fast-paced live event environments.
Role Responsibilities
The following duties represent the primary responsibilities of the role. This list is not exhaustive. The individual in this position will perform additional tasks as assigned, adhere to all provisions of the Employee Manual, and participate in company initiatives and projects.
Technical Design & Pre-Production Planning
- Interpret production designs and translate them into technical lighting system layouts.
- Create detailed equipment lists, signal flow diagrams, and deployment plans.
- Collaborate with sales, project managers and engineering to ensure accurate pre-production planning.
- Consult with design and structure engineers to best offer solutions for special project layouts and meet client requirements.
Sales Support & Vendor Collaboration
- Assist sales with creating and building quotes / pullsheets and other elements.
- Collaborate with outside vendors for engineered solution rentals.
Technical Operations & Quality Control
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues under time-critical conditions.
- Develop and implement standardized quality control (QC) processes for lighting systems.
Training & Professional Development
- Assist with development and deployment of lighting related training programs. May involve some in person development.
- Stay current and knowledgeable of the latest industry equipment, technology, services, and best practices
Work Environment
This job operates in an office and warehouse environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, smartphones, office phones and other standard office equipment. This role involves ongoing communication with internal employees and external contacts-via phone, email and any other professional means of communication necessary to complete the duties.
Physical Demands
The person in this role must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and must move about occasionally inside the office or warehouse to access files and/or office machinery. This person in this role will be able to lift 25lbs regularly, occasionally lifting 50lbs.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
The typical work schedule for this position follows a standard workday, with occasional flexibility for evening and weekend work during high-volume periods. All breaks and lunches will comply with local, state, and federal laws, and overtime, if required, will be compensated in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
Travel
This position requires travel, up to 20%. Travel may be mixed - local and outside the local area and overnight.
Required
- 5 years of experience with lighting systems in live event production and production.
- Genuine customer service orientation.
- Proficiency of computers and software such as Rental Management Systems, Vector Works, Excel, Word and other similar programs.
- Knowledge of lighting equipment, operation and principles of lighting.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment with minimal supervision, applying critical and strategic thinking to make sound business decisions, raising issues to management as appropriate and offering value-added solutions both proactively and in response to a variety of situations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, consultative, project management, time management, organization and implementation skills.
- Ability to work independently and under extreme pressure on multiple tasks with little or no supervision under tight deadlines in a high volume-demanding environment.
- Ability to work as part of a team and support all programs where necessary including assisting on projects that fall outside of the role when required.
