Position Summary
The Clinical Director of Critical Care coordinates and supervises the activities of the Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Respiratory Therapy, and Clinical Supervisors. This position assumes leadership, accountability, and responsibility for nursing and respiratory care operations while maintaining responsibilities as defined in the RN job description. Responsibilities include team development, program planning, and monitoring of financial and human resource process improvements. The Clinical Director directs, collaborates with, and evaluates all assigned staff according to Littleton Regional Healthcare’s philosophy and objectives. This role supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of the organization and demonstrates a commitment to quality service for patients, physicians, the public, and co-workers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Oversees staffing and scheduling of personnel in the ED, ICU, and Respiratory Therapy departments.
- Provides direct supervision and leadership for House Supervisors, ensuring consistent operations across all nursing units.
- Participates in recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention of staff within assigned departments.
- Ensures staff assignments align with patient needs and individual scope of practice.
- Provides clinical and operational support to staff and functions as a resource for problem-solving and decision-making.
- Participates in planning and monitoring of capital and operational budgets.
- Completes performance appraisals and develops professional growth plans for nursing, respiratory therapy, and supervisory staff.
- Facilitates educational opportunities for assigned departments, encouraging ongoing learning and skill development.
- Participates in event management, ensuring follow-up education and process improvement.
- Leads or contributes to policy development, review, and decision-making for assigned areas.
- Facilitates departmental flow, ensuring efficiency and quality care delivery.
- Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives through data collection, analysis, and auditing.
- Provides clinical support across all nursing units as needed and assumes patient assignments in the ED or ICU when required.
- Rotates on-call responsibilities with other nursing leadership, including the night and weekend call coverage as well as Manager-of-the-Day duties.

Certifications
Current RN license in the state of New Hampshire (or compact license).
ACLS – Required
PALS – Required
TNCC—Required (within six months of hire)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related degree required
- Master of Science in Nursing preferred
Experience
- Minimum of three to five years of relevant clinical experience required
- Leadership experience (minimum of three years) required
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced, high-acuity environment with potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and surgical instrumentation.
- Requires standing for extended periods, lifting to 50 pounds, and full-body mobility.
- Must be able to respond quickly and safely in urgent situations.
