What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor - PAID TRAINING position at Little Splash Swim Program?
SCHEDULE: Weekday mornings and/or evenings, roughly 9 AM to 12 PM for mornings and 4-7 PM for evenings,
~ 10 hours/week to start (some weekend hours may be occasionally available to you if interested)
~ As you grow as an instructor, you may be offered more lesson time slots!
PAY: $12-14/hr once teaching with oversight, up to $20/hr as a fully certified solo instructor
ABOUT US: Little Splash Swim Program is a small, growing swim school serving Des Moines families. We teach infant, toddler, and child swim lessons with a play-based, child-led approach — small classes, warm water, and a calm pool environment. We partner with Hope Floats Foundation to fund swim scholarships for local kids, so if you’re interested in getting involved in this way, we would love your support!
THE JOB: Lead and assist with swim lessons for infants, toddlers, and children, ages 6 months to 10 years. You'll start in our paid training program, shadowing the owner and learning our curriculum and teaching methods in the water. Once trained, you'll teach your own classes with support, and grow into a fully certified instructor with your own students and hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach swim and water safety skills using our curriculum, work one-on-one and in small groups with young children, track swimmer progress in our app, communicate with parents in a warm professional way, and keep the pool area safe and organized.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 15 or older. Must love working with young kids and be patient, energetic, and reliable. CPR/First Aid certification is required, but we'll help you get certified if you don't have it. Swim team, lifeguard, or competitive experience is a plus!
Reliable transportation to our Des Moines location is a must. No prior teaching experience needed — we train you!
