Job Objective and Mission:
The purpose of this position is to provide exceptional accounting and financial reporting support to the Homes in the Baltimore Province.

The Staff Accountant - Financial Shared Services will carry out the above duties in keeping with the mission of Little Sisters of the Poor, namely the caring for the aged poor with love, respect and dignity. “Making the elderly happy, that is what counts” was a saying of Saint Jeanne Jugan, foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Central to this philosophy is the promotion of the psychological, emotional, spiritual and social well-being of our Residents in an atmosphere of kindness and faith.

Qualifications:
- Possession of a college degree in accounting or business is required.
- At least 7 years of recent, successful experience gained while working in a similar capacity/professional office environment. Successful experience should include general ledger reconciliations, accounting analyses and financial report preparation. Experience with not-for-profit accounting is preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, because of the frequent interaction with supervisors, directors, religious Sisters and Home administration, including the ability to conduct these communications with tact, diplomacy and gentleness.
- Experience working with multi-entity accounting.& &
- Strong organizational and analytical ability to work well under pressure. Must have a proven ability to work independently and problem solve.
- Work well in a team environment; and ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines.
- Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, the Internet, email and ERP financial system software, are required and Netsuite applications are a plus.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with the month-end close process, financial reports and analyses.
- Reconcile bank and other balance sheet accounts, to statements and subsidiary systems.
- Import/enter journal entries from subsidiary systems.
- Monitor all restricted gifts and grants.
- Review monthly financial trends for consistent reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and cash flow reports.
- Assist in annual audit and cost report preparations.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical questions a plus.
- Respond to requests for information from Sisters and staff in the Homes.
