About the Little Delaware Youth Ensemble
The Little Delaware Youth Ensemble (LDYE) and Little Delaware Preparatory Ensemble (LDPE) provide ensemble experience for young musicians. Since its inception in 2000, the reputation of LDYE has grown, attracting young musicians from Otsego and neighboring counties in upstate New York. Today, string students, ages 6-18 rehearse weekly in Oneonta. By providing musical leadership of the highest quality, experience with original repertoire from widely varied genres and the stimulation of a cooperative learning environment, LDYE has established a unique culture of excellence. Through the years, LDYE alumni have gone on to careers in music and music education.
Business Manager Overview
The LDYE/LDPE Business Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. Many hours are flexible work at home, with some exceptions. These include, but are not limited to: attendance at Monday afternoon rehearsals, Board meetings, concerts, the workshop, auditions, and occasional rehearsals and performances scheduled at other times. The Business Manager has direct contact with parents, the Music Director of LDYE, the Conductor of LDPE, the Board of Directors and donors. The Business Director has strong writing skills, including grant writing, and is a good communicator, well organized, efficient, tactful and a self-starter. The Business Manager works in close cooperation with the LDYE Music Director in planning and implementing LDYE/LDPE activities.
Responsibilities
- Attend all rehearsals, concerts and special events
- Attend monthly Board meetings and present Business Manager's report for each meeting
- Communicate with parents about schedule and current activities
- Update the website and social media as needed
- Update QuickBooks and communicate regularly with the Treasurer
- Write and submit grants. Seek out and research new grant opportunities.
- Organize and oversee auditions, concerts, open rehearsals, annual spring workshop and mini-workshops including grant writing, promotion and advertising
- Coordinates with graphic designer and print shop for development and printing of promotional materials.
- Facilitate all mailings, including letters to families, fundraising letters, donation thank you letters, advertising and letters to schools
- Coordinate volunteers
- Maintain and update Donor database and email list.
- Attend to the weekly financial needs of the organization, including checking mail. As a security measure, Board member checks the mail, logs it and then passes it on to the Business Manager, making deposits, paying bills, filing quarterly state tax forms, coordinating payroll with the Treasurer.
- Maintain archives of all written and published material associated with the organization, including minutes, advertising and correspondence
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent in experience
- Knowledge of and experience with book and record keeping
- Excellent writing and communication skills; grant writing experience is particularly valuable.
- Computer literacy
- Familiarity with QuickBooks and Excel
- Experience with basic website maintenance
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with students, staff, parents, donors and Board members
Pay: $27.00 per hour
