PacAero Agawam is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented CNC Machine Shop Supervisor to lead our aerospace precision machining operations. This is a working supervisor role responsible for both hands-on 5-axis CNC setups and supervising day-to-day production in a high-precision environment.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise with Okuma 5-axis machining centers and Haas vertical mills, with a proven track record of maintaining aerospace-level quality, efficiency, and compliance.
This position is full-time onsite, Monday–Friday.
Requirements:Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead and coordinate all activities in the CNC machine shop, ensuring production goals are met safely, efficiently, and to aerospace standards.
- Assign, schedule, and monitor daily work for machinists and setup personnel.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate team members on best practices for setup, operation, and inspection.
- Collaborate with engineering, programming, and quality teams to resolve technical challenges and optimize machining processes.
- Promote a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement across the team.
- Technical & Setup Duties
- Perform advanced setups on Okuma 5-axis and Haas 3-axis machining centers, including tool selection, fixture setup, and program loading.
- Read and interpret complex aerospace blueprints, GD&T, and detailed setup sheets.
- Verify and adjust first-article parts to ensure conformance to tight aerospace tolerances.
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues to maintain uptime and quality.
- Work with programmers to refine tool paths, feeds, and speeds for improved efficiency and finish.
Quality & Compliance:
- Ensure all machining operations meet AS9100 and customer-specific aerospace requirements.
- Maintain thorough setup documentation, part traceability, and inspection records.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to verify dimensional accuracy and address any nonconformances.
- Enforce safety and cleanliness standards in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce cycle time, improve tool life, and enhance precision.
- Participate in lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support machine maintenance and calibration schedules to ensure consistent performance.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of CNC machining experience in aerospace or high-precision manufacturing.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory, lead, or setup role.
- Hands-on experience with Okuma 5-axis machining centers and Haas vertical mills.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and aerospace documentation standards.
- Familiar with AS9100 quality system requirements.
- Skilled in the use of precision inspection tools (micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, etc.).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Experience with Okuma OSP controls and Mastercam or other CAM software.
- Working knowledge of fixture design, tool selection, and optimization for 5-axis machining.
- Background in lean manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-mix aerospace production environment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Climate-controlled precision machine shop environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, and lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Close collaboration with engineers, programmers, and quality inspectors to achieve mission-critical aerospace standards.
