Role Description

The High Performance Concrete Manager of Project Support is responsible for providing operational and technical leadership to BURG project teams executing specialty slab systems throughout preconstruction and project execution. This role partners with project teams, specialty slab system providers, and external vendors to integrate specialty slab best practices into planning, procurement, and field execution. The Manager of Project Support improves execution consistency, reduces project risk, and develops the organization's capability to successfully deliver increasingly complex specialty slab projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialty Slab Project Support: Provide operational and technical guidance throughout the preconstruction and project execution lifecycle for specialty slab systems, supporting project teams from estimating through project closeout .
  • Preconstruction Collaboration: Partner with estimating and operations teams during preconstruction to develop constructable specialty slab solutions, validate project approaches, and improve bid competitiveness.
  • Project Execution Coordination: Lead the specialty slab project support process by coordinating planning activities, technical deliverables, equipment, suppliers, and project resources required for successful execution.
  • Technical Expertise and Problem Solving: Serve as the subject matter expert for specialty slab systems by helping project teams interpret engineering requirements, evaluate constructability, and resolve field execution challenges.
  • Vendor and Supplier Management: Develop productive relationships with specialty slab system providers, equipment vendors, and material suppliers while coordinating technical support and holding partners accountable to project commitments.
  • Project Team Development: Develop the specialty slab knowledge and execution capabilities of project teams through coaching, field support, and sharing best practices across the organization.

Tasks and Duties

Preconstruction Support

  • Collaborate with estimating teams during bid development to provide operations expertise for specialty slab systems.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and specialty slab details to identify execution risks and opportunities.
  • Assist project teams in developing constructable means and methods for specialty slab installations.
  • Provide recommendations regarding specialty slab system selection, equipment requirements, sequencing, and constructability.
  • Participate in project turnover activities to communicate specialty slab execution requirements to project teams.

Project Planning & Administration

  • Work with project teams to complete specialty slab planning activities, including submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, budgets, buyout, schedule of values, billings, change orders, warranties, and general project documentation.
  • Review specialty slab engineering details and project drawings to identify technical considerations prior to construction.
  • Coordinate long-lead material procurement and monitor supplier lead times.
  • Assist project teams in developing logistics plans that support specialty slab installation activities.
  • Review project schedules and sequencing with project leadership to align specialty slab activities with overall project milestones.
  • Support project teams in developing standard cost codes and project financial planning associated with specialty slab work.

Field Execution Support

  • Lead the specialty slab project execution process by providing project teams with structured execution plans and specialty slab workflows.
  • Attend on-site planning meetings, trade coordination meetings, and project reviews during specialty slab execution.
  • Review project readiness prior to critical milestones including test slabs, screed pulls, trial batches, and production placements.
  • Assist project teams with wet cure procedures, finishing operations, and specialty slab installation techniques.
  • Support place and finish operations involving steel fiber floors, shrinkage compensating concrete, and other specialty slab applications.
  • Provide technical guidance during field execution to address specialty slab engineering requirements and operational challenges.

Equipment & Supplier Coordination

  • Coordinate specialty slab equipment selection and ordering based on project requirements.
  • Communicate with specialty slab system providers regarding equipment configuration, machine selection, and technical support requirements.
  • Coordinate dosing station setup, startup activities, and operator training with project teams and equipment providers.
  • Collaborate with ready-mix suppliers regarding mix design development and production planning.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with specialty slab manufacturers and suppliers to support consistent project execution.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with BURG operations, HPC leadership, estimating teams, suppliers, and customers to align specialty slab execution plans.
  • Coordinate with project teams to integrate specialty slab requirements into overall project sequencing and logistics planning.
  • Share specialty slab lessons learned and best practices across projects to improve future execution.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve specialty slab processes, planning tools, and execution standards.

Team Development

  • Coach project teams on specialty slab engineering concepts, equipment operation, planning expectations, and execution best practices.
  • Provide field mentoring during critical specialty slab activities to improve project team competency.
  • Assist in developing specialty slab training materials, execution guides, and standardized processes.
  • Promote consistent application of specialty slab standards across all supported projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of concrete materials, material science, admixtures, aggregates, cementitious systems, and their application in specialty slab construction.
  • Strong understanding of ready-mix plant operations, batching processes, production capabilities, and quality control practices.
  • Working knowledge of ASTM, ACI, and applicable industry standards governing concrete materials, testing, placement, and finishing.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and solve complex concrete performance, placement, and production issues.
  • Strong understanding of slab flatness, floor tolerances, structural tolerances, and specialty concrete performance requirements.
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders including operations, estimating, suppliers, manufacturers, engineers, and customers.
  • Previous experience leading, supervising, or developing technical or operational teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to project teams and customers.
  • Ability to travel to project sites nationwide as project demands require.
