Executive Director

Literacy Volunteers of Berkshire County (LVBC) is seeking a dedicated and dymanic Executive Director to lead and manage our organization. The ideal candidate will oversee program coordination, development, financial management, and community engagement while fostering relationships with volunteers, donors, and partner organizations.All applicants MUST SUBMIT COVER LETTER with recent resume to be considered for this position.
About Us
Since 1980, LVBC has been located at the Berkshire Athenaeum, Pittsfield’s public library. We provide free, one-on-one tutoring for adults in basic reading, writing, and conversational English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). Our mission is to empower adults in Berkshire County to achieve their goals and contribute meaningfully to their communities through literacy education. This is accomplished by recruiting, training, and supporting a dedicated team of volunteer tutors.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and assist the Program Coordinator and oversee all program-related activities.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers
- Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, grantors, and donors.
- Create and manage budgets, oversee QuickBooks, manage payroll, pay bills, and ensure compliance with tax and government reporting.
- Lead development efforts, manage donor databases, and assist the board with fundraising events.
- Identify grant opportunities, apply for grants, manage expenditures, and report to funders.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience in nonprofit management or a similar leadership role.
- Proficiency in MS Office and Excel required
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Financial management, including budgeting (QuickBooks experience a plus)
- Experience in grant writing and fundraising
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Familiarity with human resource management and office administration
