What are the responsibilities and job description for the .5 Band Teacher (Grades 5-12) position at Lisbon Community School District?
The Lisbon Community School District is seeking a passionate and collaborative 0.5 FTE Band Teacher to support and enhance its 5–12 instrumental music program. This individual will work in close partnership with the current Band Director to lead the 5th and 6th grade band program and provide small group and individual instrumental lessons for students in grades 5–12.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. A high level of collaboration and communication is essential to effectively coordinate instruction, align curriculum, and support student growth across all grade levels.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the current Band Director to plan, rehearse, and instruct the 5th and 6th grade band program
- Provide individual and small group lessons to band students in grades 5–12 to support skill development and musical growth
- Coordinate lesson schedules in partnership with staff to minimize disruption to core academic instruction
- Assist in preparing students for concerts, performances, contests, and other musical events
- Support vertical alignment of the band curriculum across grades 5–12
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families regarding student progress, expectations, and program updates
- Foster a classroom and rehearsal environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and a love of music
- Collaborate within Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and contribute to continuous program improvement
- Assist with instrument inventory, maintenance, and organization of music resources
- Support recruitment and retention efforts for the band program, particularly at transition points (e.g., 5th grade entry, junior high to high school)
- Uphold district policies and contribute positively to the school culture and community
Located 20 minutes from Cedar Rapids and 25 minutes from Iowa City. Historic Lisbon offers access to a thriving corridor while providing all the benefits of a close-knit community. Approximately 350 elementary school students are provided rigorous and relevant curriculum from a strong elementary staff. Lisbon students utilize our 1-to-1 computing initiative to help students achieve personal and district curriculum goals.
