Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin is dedicated to the mission of restoring the gift of sight through the recovery and preparation of donated eye tissue for transplantation, research, and education. We are seeking 2, detail-oriented, mission-driven individuals to join our team as a Laboratory Technicians.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Shift 1: 9am - 2pm (5 hours)
Shift 2: 1pm - 6pm (5 hours)
Sunday - Wednesday
Alternating Thursdays
Alternating Saturdays (Shift: 10am - 3:30pm)
No Fridays
Position Objective:
This position is responsible for inventory control management and ordering operational supplies, assuring laboratory cleanliness and monitoring duties. Tissue evaluation, blood and tissue packaging, equipment cleaning and maintenance, instrument cleaning and sterilization, and other laboratory duties.
Essential Duties of the Position:
1. Ensure cleanliness standards of the laboratory are consistently met.
2. Maintain laboratory supply inventories by tracking, ordering and stocking required laboratory and recovery supplies.
3. Perform receipt, inspection and rotation of critical and non-critical laboratory and recovery supplies.
4. Assemble and distribute supplies to recovery technicians.
5. Research vendors and provide price comparison data.
6. Tissue evaluations (slit lamp and specular microscopy and OCT)
7. Ensure all laboratory and quality control activities performed are documented in a thorough, accurate and professional manner.
8. Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with rules and regulations.
9. Photocopy forms and other documents as needed for laboratory and recovery procedures.
10. Deliver and pick up supplies and other materials to and from local recipients (Doctors’ offices. ME, airport, courier offices) when needed.
11. Maintains computerized and hard copy donor documentation.
12. Prepare documentation of laboratory findings by collecting, analyzing and documenting serology results and donor information.
13. Involved in plans aimed at improving efficiencies (tracking/trending, training).
14. Receipt of recovered tissue and packaging and distribution of eligible tissue for transplant, research and education and serology samples.
15. Instrument cleaning, inspection and sterilization.
16. Commitment to training plan and timely completion of set goals.
17. Clean, maintain and perform scheduled maintenance of laboratory equipment.
18. Effectively and professionally communicate with LEBW staff and partner organizations, as necessary.
19. Demonstrates knowledge of and performs applicable FDA regulations, EBAA Medical Standards, Wisconsin Statutes, and LEBW SOPs; remains current with updates to these regulations, standards, and SOPs.
20. Maintains compliance to applicable FDA regulations, EBAA Medical Standards, and LEBW SOPs by participating in investigations for departures and deviations from procedures, tissue and customer complaints, and adverse reactions, as required.
21. Work cooperatively with co-workers and other departments.
22. Perform other duties as assigned by Technical Director.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
· HS Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· Previous experience in a scientific or medical field or eye bank setting preferred.
· Expertise, skills, and knowledge of ophthalmology terminology or eye bank procedures is a plus.
· Valid driver’s license and insured/safe motor vehicle.

· Ability to learn and follow all applicable FDA regulations, EBAA Medical Standards, and LEBW SOPs related to job functions.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Flexible work schedule, to accommodate for staffing shortages and unexpected workload.
· Holiday work is required when LEBW recognized holiday fall on regularly scheduled shifts.
· Demonstrate competence with standard computer applications and ability to become proficient in new computer applications.
· Dedication and commitment to eye banking and strong focus on fulfilling the wishes of donors and their families.
Physical/Environmental Demands of the Position:
1. Physical Activities – standing, bending, stooping, driving, and walking.
2. Level of Physical Requirements – moderate physical work. Must be able to lift 50pounds independently. Good eye sight with binocular vision.
3. Environmental Conditions – generally in laboratory setting. May travel to courier offices, hospitals and/or coroner/ME offices and funeral homes, when needed.
4. Use of computers, cell phones, and other office equipment.
5. Exposure to corneal tissue, cornea preservation media, and other recovery supplies and reagents.
