Position Summary:
The Residential Assistant supports the individuals living in Linwood’s residences and assists in implementing each resident’s Individual Plan (IP) and Behavior Plan (BP). This support includes facilitating the resident’s achievement of personalized goals tailored to his/her needs and abilities. The Residential Assistant will work cooperatively with other assistants in the home, the House Manager, Program Coordinators, and other staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in developing the IP and behavior plans for each individual in the house and implements and documents the portion of the plan related to the individual in the residential program.
- Provides guidance to the individuals in the house to ensure the following:
- The house, the appliances, the vehicles, and the equipment are safe, operational, and in good working order.
- The individuals are engaged in meaningful activities that address the outcomes in their IPs.
- Supervises and assists the individuals in the house with menus, food preparation, housekeeping, personal care, laundry, and other activities of daily living.
- Plans and coordinates appropriate leisure, social, and daily activities in the residence and the community.
- Provides transportation of the individuals to and from their destinations. These activities may include events, shopping trips and medical, dental, and mental health appointments.
- Acts as an agent of Linwood by exchanging appropriate and accurate information with the healthcare professional during medical, dental, and mental health appointments and interact with the pharmacist to obtain medications.
- The nursing staff commissioned by Linwood shall train the residential assistant and carry out duties as a certified medication technician, delegated by the nurses as prescribed by the Board of Nursing and DDA.
- Administers correct and timely medication (oral, topical, nebulizers, bowel regimens) consistent with the Physician Medical Order Form (PMOF) and the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and ensures three-way checks.
- Assumes responsibility for the individuals in the house during the day when they cannot attend the day program (e.g., for illness, inclement weather, closings, etc.). The supervisor will try to arrange coverage; however, the final responsibility rests on the residential staff.
- Meets deadlines and completes all necessary paperwork in conjunction with the House Manager. This includes quarterly reports, monthly reports, fire drill records, attendance records, weight charts, house receipts, daily logbooks, etc.
- Attends and participates in clinical meetings and medication reviews as directed.
- Accounts for money that belongs to the individuals per Linwood’s policy and procedure regarding the Protection of Finances and Personal Property.
- Uses technology for the completion of specified job duties.
- Learns and properly utilizes Linwood’s Data Management System (CIMS) to maintain accurate records and permit accurate billing with DDA.”
- Attends work regularly according to the assigned work schedule per Agency policy.
- Attends and participates in mandated DDA training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development.
- Maintains current valid CMT, CPR/ First Aid, and MANDT certifications.
- May assume other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma, equivalent, or AA degree in a related field, is preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must have a valid driver’s MD license and an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the Agency’s insurance carrier and by Agency policy.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Regularly exposed to weather conditions during travel to and from worksites and appointments.
- Frequently required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, various forms of technology, or controls.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, run, or crawl.
- Must be able to work under regular, moderate levels of stress.
- Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
