About Universal Clerk:
Performs specialized clerical and customer service duties within the Treasurer’s Office involving vehicle title and registration transactions, tax collection, and document processing to ensure compliance with Iowa laws and regulations, while providing courteous service to the public.
- Processes customer transactions including verifying validity of documents including title applications, lien notations/releases, and duplicate titles. Explains, processes, and collects payments for property taxes and motor vehicle transactions using computer systems.
- Processes license plate activities including cancellations, exchanges, refunds and special license applications.
- Scans, files, and stores records in document management systems.
- Reviews incoming paperwork for completeness, accuracy, and legal compliance.
- Researches and applies Iowa and other state motor vehicle laws, codes, and DOT regulations. Contacts other states for clarification or processing.
- Processes payments and refunds including cash, check, credit card, and electronic funds. Counts and balance receipts and cash accurately and securely. Follows cash handling procedures and reconciles totals daily.
- Reviews and verifies incoming paperwork for completeness, accuracy, and legal compliance.
- Responds to customer inquiries with understanding Iowa Code, DOT requirements, and appropriate regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Four (4) years of clerical experience including at least one (1) year processing and accounting for large sums of money.
