Required Qualifications
Education and Experience: Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of one year full-time secretarial experience or equivalent secretarial education.
Knowledge and Skills: Requires basic knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment, including filing systems, receptionist and telephone techniques and letter and report writing. Requires knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and basic arithmetic skills. Must be skilled in using standard office machines, including computers and word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Requires good planning, customer relations and communication skills.
Abilities: Requires the ability to perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively with minimum supervision. Must be able to perform routine office and secretarial work with speed and accuracy. Must be able to learn, interpret, explain and apply knowledge of the college and department organization, operations, programs, functions and special department terminology. Requires the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in order to meet schedules and time lines. Requires the ability to communicate with students, staff and faculty using tact, diplomacy and courtesy. Requires the ability to understand and interpret staff instructions, assess and respond appropriately to the learning-related needs of diverse students, and to shift rapidly and easily from student to student as they work on course assignments. Requires ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications: Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Requires good hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard, typewriter or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to hear over phone and carry on routine conversations.
Work is performed in an open office setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards. Substantial time is spent working at a computer.

Compensation Information
All Part-time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position's grade. Placement at a higher step on the salary schedule is not negotiable. Step increases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at the end of the Fiscal Year in July if approved and submitted by the employee's supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than one position or department cannot be combined for step advancement. Part-time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the last day of the month.

Essential Duties
- Composes and types, using word processing, a wide range of materials. Makes copies. May be assigned various projects and tasks from department faculty and staff.
- Performs receptionist duties. Answers phones and monitors digital channels, provides information and assistance on a variety of matters requiring detailed knowledge of rules, procedures, policies, precedents and activities of the Learning Center.
- Provides office support to include working with confidential student files and information, monitoring department office supplies inventory and ordering supplies, opening and distributing mail. Prepares facility work order requests.
- Assists director with collecting and compiling statistical student data.
- Provides backup customer service support for the Learning Center staff.
- Coordinates and communicates with leads in Tutoring, Academic Coaching, Writing Center, and other Center staff in supporting student success. Refers students to and/or helps them schedule appointments with appropriate campus resources.
- Maintains a neat and supportive learning environment. Enforces noise, safety protocol, computer use, and food guidelines. Keeps records of student usage and makes recommendations for changes. Keeps current hours posted.
- Provides assistance to students using computers for learning activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
