About the Opportunity We are partnering with an established insurance company seeking an Assistant Controller to support the organization's financial operations and oversee key accounting functions. This role is ideal for someone with strong accounting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a regulated environment such as insurance or financial services. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in financial reporting, month-end close, regulatory compliance, and process improvement initiatives while supporting the Controller and executive team. Applicants must be residing in Hawaii at the time of application.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport and oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, AR/AP, bank reconciliations, and journal entriesLead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reportingPrepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP and insurance regulatory requirementsAssist with statutory filings and regulatory reporting for insurance compliancePerform variance analysis, account reconciliations, and financial reviewsWork closely with auditors during annual audit and regulatory examinationsHelp implement and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and process improvementsAssist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning functionsProvide financial insights and support for management decision-makingSupervise and mentor accounting staff as neededQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required4-7 years of progressive accounting experience; insurance or financial services industry experience strongly preferredStrong working knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plusCPA or progress toward CPA is highly preferredExperience with accounting systems and Excel (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detailAbility to work independently, manage deadlines, and support multiple prioritiesStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
