Senior Tax Accountant (3-5 years experience)
Location: Cornelius, NC (On-Site)
Compensation: $90,000 – $115,000 Bonus Potential
Overview
A growing, locally owned CPA firm in Cornelius, NC is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join a small, collaborative team. This is a hands-on role focused primarily on tax return preparation, with the opportunity to expand into review and client interaction over time.

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare federal and multi-state tax returns, including:
- Individual (1040)
- Business (S-Corp, C-Corp, Partnerships)
- Trusts and Estates
- Work through an existing backlog of returns on extension
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all filings prior to final review
- Collaborate with junior staff and firm owner to meet deadlines
- Communicate with clients via secure portal and other digital tools
- Assist with light bookkeeping and payroll support, if applicable
Team Structure
- Reports directly to firm owner (CPA)
- Works alongside 2 junior accountants
- Small office environment (5 or fewer total employees)
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of public accounting tax experience
- Strong experience preparing tax returns (review experience a plus, but not required)
- Exposure to multiple return types preferred (individual, business, trust/estate), but not required
- CPA preferred, not required
- Experience with Lacerte is a plus, but not required
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Work Environment & Schedule
- On-site role in Cornelius, NC
- Commutable from: Charlotte, Huntersville, Mooresville, Davidson
- Tax Season (Feb–April, extension periods):
- Extended hours expected (approx. 60 hours/week)
- “All hands on deck” team environment
- Comp time/flexibility provided
- Off-Season:
- Flexible schedule based on workload
- Reduced hours common
- Early Fridays or Fridays off possible
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $90,000 – $115,000 (depending on experience)
