Job Title: Field Foreman (Roadwork & Guardrail)
Location: Richmond, VA (work within 75 miles)
Pay Rate: $36 – $40/hour ($75,000-$84,000 before OT)
Hours: Average 55 hours/week
About the Role
We are seeking a Field Foreman to lead roadwork and guardrail installation projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operator or construction foreman ready to take the next step in their career. The ideal candidate is mature, organized, and skilled at managing crews while ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency on-site.
Responsibilities
- Crew Leadership:
- Supervise and direct a crew of 5–10 workers.
- Provide daily guidance, assign tasks, and maintain productivity.
- Lead by example with professionalism and a strong work ethic.
- Project Management:
- Conduct site assessments and oversee site layouts.
- Verify utilities, including locating or addressing unmarked utilities.
- Set up string lines to ensure proper guardrail height and alignment.
- Ensure projects stay on track by monitoring work in 30-minute intervals throughout the day.
- Paperwork & Reporting:
- Maintain daily field tickets/diaries documenting project progress.
- Track crew timesheets using Excel spreadsheets.
- Submit reports and records accurately and on time.
- Logistics & Communication:
- Report to the office each morning for official logistics.
- Communicate daily plans and updates to crews via GPS, text, or printed copies.
- Coordinate with management to ensure smooth operations.
- Equipment & CDL Requirement:
- Operate heavy equipment (backhoes, dozers, graders, hammer trucks, etc.).
- Use company-provided iPad for field documentation and tracking.
- Drive a company-provided work truck with tools.
- Obtain a Class A CDL within the first year (company-paid).
Qualifications
Experience:
- Background in construction, grading, or pipe installation.
- Heavy equipment operator experience with lever-operated machinery.
- Prior crew leadership or foreman experience strongly preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency with Excel and iPad-based reporting tools.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Effective communicator, able to provide direction clearly.
Attributes:
- Mature, dependable, and safety-focused.
- Strong work ethic and ability to maintain authority on-site.
- Not focused on being “one of the crew,” but on leading and setting the example.
