Job requirements:
- Supervises nursing personnel and nursing care.
- Teaches and guides nursing personnel and residents.
- Performs assigned duties as stated by the Assistant/Director of Nursing Services.
- Analyzes nursing services needs and determines daily staffing plan in accordance with established staffing patterns and resident needs/case mix within the facility.
- Discusses with the Assistant/Director of Nursing Services any problems which may occur in regard to personnel, staffing, resident care, resident’s families etc.
- Conducts resident rounds on all nursing units to ascertain the condition of all residents, especially those whose condition has deteriorated.
- Notifies the resident’s physician, family and/or power of attorney of any changes in the resident’s condition.
- Assists with replacement of staff due to call-ins, illness etc.
- Assists in developing and maintaining nursing service goals, standards, and practices.
- When necessary, assists with arrangements for resident’s transfer to the hospital.
- When necessary, takes charge of a specific unit in the absence on the Nurse in charge.
- Participates in facility Quality Assurance program by conducting audits/record review. Instructs staff in accurate procedures/correction resulting from negative outcome audits.
- Receives verbal reports from supervisory personnel from the previous shift.
- May assist in orientation training of employees on the unit.
- Interprets, discusses, and enforces the personnel policies and practices of the Greenfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.
- Discusses individual problems that affect job performance; tries to settle differences and/or refers them to a higher authority.
- Evaluates incidents and determines emergency measures to be used, including the use of restraints. Examines and may give or direct emergency treatment to residents, employees and visitors involved in accidents. May complete the incident report with causes investigated and corrective action taken and/or suitable recommendations made to avoid recurrence.
- Reviews and interprets work performance against accepted standards.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining good personal and public relations.
- Is available for emergencies and assistance to nursing personnel as needed.
- Promotes and maintains safe work performance by employees; promotes alert work force attitude toward safety and fire hazards.
- Participates in formulation and revision of nursing policies and procedures.
- Through safe direction, assures residents of having a clean, comfortable, therapeutic, and safe environment.
- May receive and record employee “call-ins”, notifies the unit of any absenteeism or illness among the scheduled staff.
- Continues professional growth through reading current professional literature and attending professional meetings, seminars, and workshops.
- Attends facility meetings and inservices, as required.
- Assures that the progressive disciplinary process has been initiated whenever an employee violates a standard of conduct.
- Makes regular supervisory rounds to all units as part of the on-going quality assurance of resident care. Assures conformance with established policies and procedures.
- In the event of fire or any disaster, appropriate action as indicated and institutes necessary medical care as needed.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Obtains emergency drugs and ensures administration of the new drugs.
- Assists on a unit where a shortage of staff exists.
- Obtains necessary supplies from laundry, storage room or Nursing Office, as needed, and makes a note of their removal to respective departments for control.
- Sends referrals to other departments or services needed by a resident or requested by a family.
- Expected to initiate infection control procedures, when necessary.
- Performs any other tasks that are deemed necessary by administration for the coordination of the Nursing Services Department.
- Completes quality control on all glucometers per policy.
- Administers IV medications, orders flushes and care in absence of staff RN.
- Always adheres to dress code policy.
- Always adheres to time and attendance policy.
- Practices safe work habits and follows all safety procedures of the facility.
- Assures the safety, security, and wellbeing of our residents.

Qualifications:Position Requirements - Nursing Supervisor
EXPERIENCE: Experience in supervision required. IV experience preferred.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Current New York State registered nurse license. Must maintain BLS or CPR certification.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and display good professional judgment, leadership ability and organizational skills.
- Able to provide effective counseling, development and training of nursing personnel.
- Ability to function in a professional manner during emergency situations.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Must submit to and pass a yearly examination, PPD skin test and attend all mandatory inservices.
- Must have physical ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Stands, walks and sits most of shift.
- Subject to many interruptions and changes of priorities.
- Contact with residents, employees and families.
- Required to make decisions within the established guidelines.
- Required to handle emergency situations.
- Makes frequent rounds of all units.
Salary : $36 - $45
