Linden Surgical Center is searching for a dynamic individual to join our team as a Per Diem PACU/Pre-Op Nurse (RN).
Position Summary:
This Per-Diem position is for a nurse who will be cross-trained in both Pre-Op and PACU. In this position the nurse is responsible for the proper admission of patients and the administering of diligent care for post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia, including general, regional, and local. The successful candidate must have some PACU experience.
Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:
- Performs thorough preoperative patient assessment required in the outpatient setting.
- Ensures that operative and informed consents are signed and in order.
- Takes and records vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure.
- Initiates IVs and ensures that patients are informed about the procedure.
- Assesses patients’ post-operative condition.
- Monitors vital signs.
- Documents patient’s progress and all findings in chart.
- Answers patient questions and ensures they are kept comfortable.
- Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia period.
- Monitors patients for condition changes and reports any changes to the physician.
- Performs intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergencies.
- Supports the philosophy, mission, and employee code of conduct, goals, and objectives of Linden Surgical Center.
- Contributes to the progress and development of the Organization's adopted Quality Management Program.
- Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Maintains professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiences.
- Adheres to safety and environment of care policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.
- Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies and personnel.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care for patients of various age groups.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor, administrator, or delegator.
Other Required Responsibilities:
- Must be willing to fulfill multiple roles and positions as requested by the nurse administrator.
Education, Experience, and License Required:
- Completion of an accredited nursing program required.
- Current state nursing license required.
- Previous experience in a PACU area required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Positive, effective, and professional communication (both written and oral) skills.
- Knowledge of medications, general health conditions and their impact on the perioperative course and anesthetic considerations.
- Able to make decisions confidently and quickly.
- Able to work well under pressure and stress.
Physical Demands:
- Require high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities.
- Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, and to stand for long periods.
- Occasional overhead and low reaching, and to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
- Patient care activities may require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. constantly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely.
Occupational Exposure:
Category I exposure to blood-borne pathogens, may encounter chemical hazards.
Pay: From $47.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8.0 – 16.0 per week
