Instructional Support, Prime Power School

Job Summary

Lincoln University provides instructional guidance for the US Army Corps of Engineers Prime Power School at Fort Leonard Wood in St. Robert, MO. The Supplemental Instructor will support Prime Power School students through collaborative study sessions and guided learning activities to enhance student understanding and performance.

This role requires strong communication skills, a deep understanding of the subject matter, and the ability to foster an engaging and supportive learning environment.

This is a full-time, year-round, in-person position that will report to the Dean of Graduate and Extended Studies. Work schedule is expected to be from 1:30PM to 9:30PM, Monday through Friday. Work location is on base at Fort Leonard Wood.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

• Assist Prime Power School students who need remedial assistance.
• Plan and facilitate regular study sessions designed to supplement lectures.
• Create an interactive, inclusive environment where students can engage with course material and with each other
• Learn and remain updated on Prime Power School curriculum, lessons, assignments, etc.
• Design problems, and/or review guides that align with course objectives and student needs.
• Utilize and incorporate materials from the instructors, assignments, and course content.
• Conduct ongoing informal and formal assessments to identify needs and monitor progress while interpreting assessments to design appropriate remediation and instruction.
• Promote effective study habits, note-taking techniques, exam strategies, etc.
• Maintain open communication with Prime Power School instructors to ensure all study sessions, materials, and activities are aligned with course objectives.
• Provide feedback to students, instructors, and military leadership on common student struggles and session effectiveness.
• Track attendance at study sessions and report it as necessary to instructors and military leadership.
• Demonstrate strong professionalism, academic integrity, and content knowledge.
• Abide by all applicable military and university rules and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of subject material, concepts, and issues related to electrical engineering.
• Skilled in presenting complex materials and concepts in an understandable manner.
• Skilled at leading both group and individual study sessions.
• Ability to use a wide range of instructional practices, approaches, methods, and materials to support remediation and academic support.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Skills in organization and time management.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Obtained, or significant progress toward, master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, or closely related field OR an obtained master’s degree with at least 18 hours in an engineering/math related field.

• Teaching experience preferred.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Successful completion of a background check consistent with military standards.

Physical Demands:

• Frequently walk, stand, and move about the classroom for extended periods.
• Navigate around student desks, equipment, and learning stations in an active, enclosed environment.
• Maintain proximity to students to provide individual instruction.
• Light sedentary office work.
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
