About the Role:

The Machinist role is critical in manufacturing high-precision components by operating and maintaining various machine tools, including CNC machines and manual lathes. The primary objective is to produce parts that meet exact specifications and quality standards by interpreting blueprints and utilizing precision measuring instruments. This position requires a strong attention to detail to ensure all machined parts are free from defects and meet tight tolerances. The Machinist will collaborate closely with engineering and quality teams to optimize machining processes and troubleshoot any production issues. Ultimately, this role ensures the efficient and accurate fabrication of components that support the overall manufacturing goals and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience operating CNC machines and manual lathes in a machine shop environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, tool and die operations, and deburring techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship, vocational training in machining or a related field, or technical associate's degree from two-year college or technical school
  • Experience with advanced CNC programming and setup.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.
  • Certification from a recognized machining or manufacturing organization.
  • Experience working in a high-volume production environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up, operate, and maintain CNC machines and manual lathes to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations.
  • Perform precision measuring and inspection of finished parts using tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machine tools to minimize downtime and maintain optimal performance.
  • Deburr, finish, and clean machined parts to prepare them for assembly or shipment, ensuring all components meet quality and safety standards.

The required skills such as operating CNC machines and manual lathes are essential for fabricating parts with high precision and efficiency. Precision measuring skills are used daily to verify that machined components meet exact specifications, ensuring quality and reducing waste. Blueprint reading is critical for understanding the dimensions and tolerances required for each part, guiding the machining process accurately. Knowledge of machine tools and deburring techniques ensures that parts are finished properly and ready for use or assembly. Preferred skills like CNC programming and familiarity with CAD/CAM software enhance the machinist's ability to optimize machine operations and adapt to complex manufacturing requirements.
