Job Title: Assembly, Fabrication, and Welding Lead
Department: Tooling
Reports To: Tooling Manager
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Assembly, Fabrication, and Welding Lead to oversee daily operations in our small manufacturing facility. This hands-on leadership role involves supervising a team of welders and fabricators, ensuring high-quality production, and optimizing processes to meet deadlines and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of welders, fabricators, and assemblers, providing guidance and support on technical issues and job execution.
- Allocate tasks, manage workflow, and ensure team productivity and efficiency.
- Train team members in welding, assembly, and fabrication techniques, promoting skills development and safety standards.
- Production Management:
- Plan and coordinate daily production activities to meet project deadlines and quality specifications.
- Review work orders, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure accuracy in the fabrication process.
- Monitor inventory of materials and supplies, ensuring the availability of necessary resources.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve designs and resolve technical challenges.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect finished products to ensure they meet the company’s quality standards, identifying and addressing defects or rework requirements.
- Establish and enforce quality control processes throughout the production cycle.
- Implement and promote best practices for welding, fabrication, and assembly processes to optimize product quality and consistency.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols, conducting safety checks, and addressing hazards promptly.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations in the workplace.
- Conduct regular safety training sessions for staff and encourage a culture of safety awareness.
- Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, quality, and cost reduction.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and best practices to enhance productivity and minimize waste.
- Communication:
- Coordinate with management, engineering, customer, and other departments to ensure seamless communication and problem-solving.
- Provide regular updates on production status, team performance, and any issues affecting timelines or quality.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or technical certification in welding, fabrication, manufacturing engineering or related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in assembly, fabrication and/or welding within a manufacturing environment.
- 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred
- Technical Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.
- Strong knowledge of various metals and welding processes (e.g., aluminum, steel, stainless steel).
- Familiarity with machine tools, hand tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Knowledge in MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
- Leadership Skills:
- Strong team leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to train, coach, and develop a team.
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Other Requirements:
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality control.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Forklift certification and experience operating overhead cranes (preferred).
Work Environment:
- Physical demands include standing for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and operating machinery in a noisy, industrial environment.
- This is a full-time position with occasional overtime required to meet production deadlines.
