SUMMARY:

The Tech is a parttime or  fulltime position in a drug and alcohol treatment facility, regarding development, implementation, and coordination of substance abuse services.  Overall responsibilities include being responsible for assigned patient care, activities of daily living and assessments.  The schedule established is to meet patient needs so days may vary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Ensure a safe environment for all patients.
2. Assists medical and clinical staff in providing patient care according to individual needs.
3. As part of a patient focused service, promotes supportive and healing environment so that patient and staff satisfaction is enhanced.
4. Takes steps to de-escalate distressed clients.
5. Assist with therapeutic and recreational activities when needed.
6. Oversee the activities of the facility when there is no interdisciplinary staff on duty.
7. Possess adequate orientation and skills to assess situations related to relapse and to provide access to appropriate medical when needed and function as client advocate.
8. Monitor patients physical well being
9. Reinforces patient and family teaching completed by medical and clinical.
10. Monitors patients and families during visitation hours.
11. Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by supervisor.
12. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions and follow HIPAA.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

The Tech will have a minimum of a high school diploma, GED or one year of work experience. 

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

1. Must demonstrate the ability to effectively function as a LNVR team member.
2. The ability to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrently.
3. Must possess and demonstrate effective communication and organizational skills.
4. Must demonstrate the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment customarily and regularly in significant matters.
5. Must demonstrate the ability to relate with empathy and sensitivity to staff, patients, and the community.

COMPETENCIES: 

1. Patient interaction is customer service-focused and creates positive culturally appropriate relationships that support the client in meeting their goals.
2. Demonstrates knowledge of implementing crisis intervention techniques where appropriate.
3. Demonstrates critical thinking skills to assess situations related to client distress and to provide appropriate inventions.   
4. Complies with hand hygiene guidelines and universal precautions. 
5. Provides effective and proficient warm hand-off communication with medical and clinical providers and other interdisciplinary team members to uphold the continuity of patient care. 
6. Identifies and participates in quality improvement initiatives to help improve the overall safety and quality of patient care.
7. Uses clear, concise, no stigmatizing, and clinically appropriate language when communicating with patients, providers, and in the electronic medical record.
8. Demonstrates understanding of 42 CFR federal regulations requiring substance abuse disorder providers to observe privacy and confidentiality restrictions.  
9. Demonstrates understanding of the HIPAA Privacy Rule requiring the protection of individually identifiable health information held or transmitted in any form or media, whether electronic, paper, or oral. 
10. Demonstrates a culture of safety behaviors as one that is open, possesses mutual respect when discussing or presented with safety concerns, provides solutions without shifting to individual blame, and establishes a learning environment with transparency and accountability among the treatment team.
