What are the responsibilities and job description for the Zoo Crew Manager - Part-Time position at Lincoln Children's Zoo?
The Zoo Crew Manager assists the Zoo’s education department by mentoring and managing teenage volunteers in the Zoo Crew program. This position is responsible for greeting volunteers at the start of their shift, supervising volunteers during their chores, assigning volunteer stations and creating daily schedules, and ensuring all volunteers adhere to Zoo Core Values at all times. The Zoo Crew Manager serves as a mentor and job coach for teens looking to jump-start their career in the animal care field and therefore must have experience working with individuals in 7th to 12th grade.
This is a part-time seasonal position.
Hours: Seasonal, Part-Time
- 9am-5pm, on Saturday and Sundays, April through August 2026
- 4:30pm-8pm on Wednesday evenings in June, July, and August 2026
This position is guaranteed through August 31, 2026.
Principal Duties:
- Responsible for the supervision, teaching, and evaluation of youth volunteers
- Arrives promptly on time for each shift
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all spaces
- Follow all safety guidelines and demonstrate ability to make good decisions regarding the welfare of participants and animals
- Ability to multi-task and be detail oriented in a fast-paced environment, pivoting to a new plan of action when the original plan does not work out
- Provide excellent and professional communication with all Lincoln Children’s Zoo staff, volunteers, and guests
- Create a memorable guest experience
- Create a positive working environment for all
- Foster a respectful, caring, and professional attitude with Zoo Crew teen participants
- Continue to uphold the Zoo’s mission at the zoo and zoo functions, as well as whenever in Zoo attire on and off Zoo grounds
- Other duties as assigned

- Must be able to act in a responsible and mature manner, using common sense
- Ability to remain calm and think rationally under pressure
- Must be available for duration of summer, nights, and weekends
Minimum Qualifications:
- Age 20 years or older
- Experience and/or strong interest in supervising and mentoring/educating teens
- Experience and/or strong interest in environmental education, animal science, or related field
- Ability to be on your feet most of the day, working in all weather conditions
