The role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Sr. Accountant to provide accounting support as the company enters a new phase of growth. In this position you will be involved in a variety of accounting areas and financial close activities including driving full GAAP compliance, supporting technical accounting (M&A and other strategic projects), accrued & prepaid expenses, financial statement preparation, assist with audit, ad-hoc analysis, month-end reviews, as well as internal and external reporting. This role will also help drive process improvements as well as support implementation of new technologies that provide scale within our overall accounting processes. This role will have opportunity for growth over time and will significantly impact the company as well as influence the overall direction of the accounting function.
What You’ll Do
- Support the preparation and review of monthly financial statements
- Active participant in the financial close process; drive close checklist, month-end closing entries and adjustments, account reconciliations, etc.
- Analyze and prepare variance explanations for fluctuations in the financial statements
- Fixed Assets and Inventory management
- Support various technical accounting initiatives including revenue recognition, M&A accounting, equity accounting, technical memos, adoption of new standards, etc
- Ensure reporting complies with GAAP standards
- Help drive compliance to internal control measures
- Active involvement in the annual audit; working directly with external auditors
- Assist in financial forecast process and budget preparation
- Present recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Assist with initiatives to drive process improvements across the accounting organization and find ways to automate and accelerate the financial close process
- Ad-hoc projects as needed
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
- 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably public accounting experience
- Bi-lingual in Spanish and English (Strong Preference)
- Ability to analyze accounting trends and communicate them to an executive audience
- Experience with, and strong knowledge of, accounting processes, GAAP, and accounting systems (including Netsuite)
- Strong leadership skills with proven record of success
- Self-motivated and initiates action
- High level of integrity and proven ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to think both strategically and execute against day-to-day objectives
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- This is a hybrid role, but we place a strong preference on hiring someone in the greater Hamden, CT area.
