What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audio Visual Technician position at Light Action, Inc.?
AV Technicians operate and maintain audio and visual technology. They set up and install audio and video equipment like cameras, projectors, speakers, TVs, video monitors to conduct live events such as concerts, meetings, graduations, sports games, etc. The AV Technician also troubleshoots equipment problems, installs systems, and links the hardware together.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to install, set up, operate and troubleshoot most AV equipment and systems (e.g., projections systems, display devices, control systems, interfacing technology, video/audio conferencing.
- Ability to trouble-shoot audio, video, and control system issues
- Identify defective/failed equipment and provide solutions
- Proficient with various terminations including RGB/RG6/Cat5/Compression/Solder etc.
- Proficient with VTC (Video Teleconferencing) setup and commission
- Proficient with low voltage wiring, trim-out and installation of wall and ceiling mounts
- Utilize test equipment
- Troubleshoot to the component level
- Fabricate equipment racks
- Safely use hand/power tools, run cable, solder, crimp, and compress the vast array of AV interfaces & connectors
- Pull and prep production equipment to fulfill customer orders and gear lists for productions. Equipment includes cabling, lighting fixtures, staging, trussing, and rigging, among others
- Complete pull sheets and return sheets when checking in and checking out equipment for orders, using a handheld barcode scanner or manually counting and counting out when required
- Test equipment prior to shipment and upon return to ensure working order and reporting any repairs needed/damages to Shop Manager
- Have familiarity with product lines including Crestron, Extron, Epson, NEC, etc.
- Help ensure accurate and timely shipping and receiving of all rental/production orders and sub-rental equipment
- Participate in the loading and unloading of equipment from customer and company vehicles
- Work with department heads and shop management to maintain a neat, orderly, and safe working environment in the shop
- Assist in production work outside of the shop (load-ins, show runs, strikes).
- Travel to customer sites, work nights, and weekends when necessary
- Perform additional job duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with audio visual equipment and the configuration & installation of audio-visual systems
- Experience with moving light repair, maintenance, and programming experience preferred.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting required.
- Basic theatrical rigging and carpentry skills are a plus
- PC Based computer skills (e.g., Powerpoint, barcos, highlites, e-vision, switchers, decimators, marshal, etc., are a plus)
- Experience with cameras including robo cam setup and operation
- Must be able to read, operate tools and equipment
- Must be able to read and interpret designs, wiring schematics, architectural drawings, and project printouts
- Proficiency with VTC (Video Teleconferencing) setup and commission
- Proficiency with low voltage wiring, trim-out and installation of wall and ceiling mounts
- Competent using test equipment
- Good organizational skills with excellent attention to details, accuracy and quality
- Must be able to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in the audio visual field;
- Truck Driving and forklift experience, a plus
- Knowledge of inventory/rental software (HireTrack), a plus
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
SCHEDULE:
- Hours vary – day, eve, nights, and weekends

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and talk or hear and remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. The employee is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms. The employee must have the ability to verbally effectively communicate with staff and customers. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work on a ladder for an extended period of time. The employee is frequently required to walk and climb or balance and access construction projects where uneven and cluttered conditions may exist. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must have the ability to stay alert and attentive at all times and operate a computer, phone and essential equipment as required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
