What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Care Worker position at LifeWays - Jackson-Hillsdale Community Mental Health Board?
Schedule: 3 12 Hour Shifts and a 4 Hour Shift, Rotating Weekends and Thursdays
Do you believe in meeting people where they are and walking alongside them on their recovery journey? As a Direct Care Worker in our Crisis Residential Unit, you’ll provide compassionate, hands-on support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges—helping them stabilize, build skills, and move toward greater independence in the least restrictive environment possible.
In this role, you’ll create a welcoming, calm, and safe space while supporting residents with daily living needs, medication monitoring and documentation (LEO EMR), and structured therapeutic activities. You’ll engage individuals in meaningful conversations that inspire hope, identify strengths, and encourage progress toward personal goals.
You’ll also:

Provide 24/7 safety monitoring and crisis de-escalation support

Assist with activities of daily living, health management, and community integration

Facilitate groups (psychoeducational, skills-based, and Whole Health Action Management (WHAM))

Document shift notes, progress notes, and incident reports

Support employment, education, and community engagement goals

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, RNs, and psychiatrists

Implement individualized plans of service and emergency procedures

Safely apply the Safety Care crisis intervention model, including therapeutic de-escalation and holds
