Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized, patient-focused Surgery Coordinator to join our ophthalmology practice. This role is primarily responsible for coordinating surgical care, with the opportunity to be directly involved in the patient’s surgical experience from start to finish, including assisting with the surgical process at our surgery center. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable guiding and supporting patients throughout every stage of their surgical journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate all aspects of ophthalmic surgeries, including scheduling procedures, confirming patient readiness, and managing surgical calendars
- Serve as the primary point of contact for surgical patients, providing education and guidance before and after procedures, and informing patient consent
- Verify insurance benefits, obtain prior authorizations, and communicate financial responsibilities to patients
- Collaborate with physicians, surgical facilities, and staff to ensure seamless surgical workflow
- Prepare and maintain accurate surgical documentation and patient records
- Ensure all pre-operative requirements are completed (labs, clearances, consents, etc.)
- Order lenses and maintain inventory of current lens supply
- Review calculation sheets for accuracy prior to surgery
- Communicate effectively with patients to answer questions and reduce anxiety surrounding surgery
- Assist with surgical procedures as needed (training provided depending on experience and role evolution)
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a medical office required; ophthalmology or surgical coordination experience strongly preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to be flexible and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Comfort working closely with patients in a surgical setting
- Willingness to travel between clinic locations as needed
Schedule & Work Location
This position maintains variable hours based on patient caseload, typically averaging 32–40 hours per week.
- Monday–Thursday: 7:45 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 7:45 AM – 12:00 PM
Work Locations:
- Mondays: Travel to our clinic in Hermiston, OR, for surgical cases
- Tuesdays–Fridays: Clinic in Walla Walla
Additional Information
- This role requires regular travel between Walla Walla and Hermiston
- Hours and schedule may vary depending on surgical volume and patient needs
- This role offers the opportunity to expand clinical skills, including surgical assisting
