Drives a variety of company vehicles, including passenger vehicles, box trucks, and bus/coach.
Drives company vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules and needs. Responsible for the safe transportation of blood products, supplies, staff and equipment to and from mobile sites. Loads and unloads orders materials, supplies and equipment at different sites and interacts with internal and external customers. Performs mobile site set-up and break-down including inventory control and audits. Responsible for a variety quality control procedures and documentation for both Collections and Mobile Support. Complies with traffic regulations and operates vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


1. Loads a variety of company vehicles in a safe manner, ensuring cargo is evenly distributed, secured and stored for transportation.

2. Performs multiple mobile break downs and returns including unloading supplies, materials, equipment and ice chests in the proper areas and in an orderly manner.

3. Performs mobile cart set-up and break-down as needed.

4. Pack and transport blood products from mobile sites to processing laboratory.

5. Properly handles and disposes of medical waste according to standard operating procedures.

6. Properly conducts daily QC duties including set-up, documentation, reporting and cleaning.

7. Properly perform heat sealer maintenance according to standard operating procedures.

8. Accurately completes bloodmobile observation sheets according to standards.

9. Unpacks items to be stocked in mobile staging areas. Stores items in an orderly and accessible manner.

10. Coordinates, organizes and stages equipment and supplies for blood drives on schedule.

11. Provides support for all mobiles, i.e. pulling supplies, restocking carts/trays, quality control and cleaning of specified equipment, and organization of equipment and supplies for each mobile.

12. Maintains supplies and work area in a neat and orderly manner.

13. Maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in accordance with internal standards, safety and FDA regulations.

14. Performs vehicle inspections prior to departure according to standard operating procedures. Reports any vehicle damage, malfunctions or needed repairs to Supervisor and takes vehicle out of service as directed.

15. Performs canteen function on mobile drives as needed including set-up/clean-up, interactions with donors, handling donor reactions and maintenance.

16. Drives vehicles to and from maintenance appointments as directed by supervisor or designee.

17. May drive out replacement vehicles in the case of vehicle breakdown or accident.

18. May drive out mobile staff, materials, supplies or equipment to mobile sites as directed by supervisor or Manager.

19. Cleans and disinfects coolers, blue ice, and separators used for product transportation per standards.

20. Responsible for ensuring all on site fueling (Diesel) vehicles have the fuel door accessible for nightly on site fueling.

21. Assists in the development of a mobile site set-up manual including inventory of all equipment/supplies verification.

22. Restocks and cleans mobile buses/trucks after mobiles return.

23. Performs multiple mobile set ups and break downs in same day.

24. Communicates appropriately with Chairperson and/or others at Blood Drive locations regarding placement of LifeStream vehicles and equipment.

25. Performs mobile site checks as required.

26. Inspects parking lot to ensure all company vehicles are parked in their proper places.

27. Restocks all mobile carts for equipment, supplies and materials.

28. Performs routine and quarterly inspections of coolers and supplies and identifies those that need to be retired and properly labels and removes from inventory. Brings them to the attention of Supervision.

29. Conducts monthly inspections of all company vehicles for damage, needed vehicle maintenance and missing paperwork.

Demonstrates a high level of problem-solving skills.



COMPLEXITY:

Work mostly includes various duties involving different and unrelated processes and methods. Decisions on what needs to be done frequently require analysis of the subject in each assignment, and chosen course of action may be selected from several alternatives. Work involves conditions and elements that must be analyzed to identify interrelationships. Work may often include varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods such as those relating to aspects of administrative or professional fields. Decisions by the employee as to what needs to be done include assessment of unusual circumstances, variations in approach and incomplete or conflicting data.

NATURE AND EXTENT OF SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO THE POSITION:


The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives, priorities and deadlines, assisting the employee with unusual situations with no clear precedents. Employee plans and executes steps to complete the assignment, following instructions, policies, and previous training or accepted practices. Completed work is evaluated for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy. Methods used by the employee are not reviewed in detail. Occasionally, the supervisor sets overall objectives and resources available, with deadlines and work plans developed in consultation with the employee, with some opportunity for the employee to interpret policy, or determine approaches and methodology for accomplishing assignments.

To perform this job successfully, each essential duty (as identified above) must be performed satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of infection control and blood transport procedures.

2. Knowledge of general vehicle maintenance (e.g. check the oil, lights, horn, wipers, etc.).

3. Knowledge of general safety procedures (e.g. proper lifting technique).

4. Excellent interpersonal skills (e.g. smiles, written and verbal communications).

5. Safe driving skills.

6. Basic math skills (related to tracking unit tallies, etc.)

7. Able to work with blood.

8. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

9. Ability to understand Regulations governing components release and product management and translate them into SOPs.

10. Ability to maintain accurate and complete records, and to resolve discrepancies in those records.

11. Knowledge of FDA Regulations on component processing, component storage, packaging, and transportation.

12. Excellent customer service skills.

13. Ability to embrace change in a positive manner.

14. Basic computer skills for retrieving and answering e-mail or performing annual competency tests.

15. Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle multiple tasks.

16. Ability to operate simple office equipment.

17. Ability to follow directions and standard operating procedures.

18. Ability to work independently and remain productive.

19. Detailed orientated and thorough.

20. Demonstrate initiative

21. Basic math skills.

22. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

23. Ability to push and pull 350 pounds.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

1 year experience in material handling and driving preferred, however candidates with a minimum of 90 days of employment with the organization that have completed their CDL certification/training meet the minimum experience required. Experience in loading/unloading preferred. 1 year of customer service preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, ETC.

Valid California Driver’s License. Commercial License required with Air Brake endorsement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Refer to ADA checklist attached for physical demands.

Fast paced laboratory and medical environment with high risks.
