What You’ll Do
As an Organ Recovery Surgeon, you will directly contribute to LifeLink’s life-saving mission. Organ Recovery Surgeon is responsible for the surgical recovery of donor organs for transplantation and/or research purposes. This position manages the operative environment that facilitates the recovery of all suitable organs for transplantation and/or research and is consistent with the core values and purpose of LifeLink® of Florida.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assumes on call responsibilities 21 days each calendar month and will notify LifeLink® of Florida in a reasonable time frame by the 20th of the prior month with days when unavailable to take on call responsibilities.
- Serves as an employee of the OPO (LLFL) to surgically recover organs for transplantation and research in donor hospitals throughout the LifeLink® of Florida Designated Service Area (DSA) with occasional support for LifeLink® of Puerto Rico.
- Provides surgical and technical support for organ preservation activities to promote expanded use of technology and increase in organs made available for transplant.
- Provides surgical information in completed operative report, including documentation any abnormalities or surgical issues.
- Works collaboratively with Medical Examiners and other medical professionals to maintain strong relationships to further develop donation area relationships, educate, and resolve any conflicts.
- Maintain confidentiality of donor and recipient information according to established policies and HIPAA compliance.
Who You Are

- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with two (2) or more years of experience in abdominal general surgery and/or abdominal transplantation surgery.
- Active medical licensure to practice medicine/surgery in a state within the United States.
- Expertise in procurement surgery is documented or have a minimum of six (6) cases under the supervision of an ACIN certified provider, including a minimum of two (2) donors after circulatory death and signed approval of the Medical Director of LifeLink® of Florida or their designee.
- Ability to handle stressful situations with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lift, carry and/or move equipment of varying weight from 1 to 30 pounds.

Working Conditions:
High stress level due to emotional and physical nature of position. Long periods of standing. Participation in 24/7 on-call schedule rotation. Hazardous conditions include, but are not limited to, possible exposure to blood and/or body fluids from potentially infected donors and the potential of obtaining cuts and/or punctures to skin from sharp instruments and equipment.
