PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Bookkeeper / Accountant is responsible for the accurate, timely, and confidential financial operations of Lifehouse Church, Lifehouse Learning Center LLC and Multiply Together Network. This role owns core bookkeeping and accounting processes, supports leadership with reliable financial information, and helps ensure that the organization’s financial systems reflect strong stewardship, accountability, and internal controls. This is not an entry-level accounting position. The successful candidate must bring established technical proficiency in accounting and bookkeeping. Lifehouse Church will provide training on church-specific workflows and systems, but not on foundational accounting concepts or financial practices.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting, Reconciliation & Financial Records
- Maintain accurate general ledger and financial records for Lifehouse Church and Multiply Together Network.
- Complete monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts, credit cards, and charge accounts.
- Manage month-end accounting tasks and verify the accuracy and completeness of recorded transactions.
- Monitor account balances and cash flow, identifying upcoming financial obligations or concerns for leadership.
Contributions, Accounts Payable & Weekly Processing
- Process and reconcile tithes, offerings, and other income received through weekend services, mail, online giving, stock transfers, and other approved sources.
- Maintain accurate contribution records in Church Community Builder (CCB) and prepare quarterly and annual charitable contribution statements, including year-end statements by January 31.
- Prepare bank deposits and support clear procedures for offering-counting teams and other financial volunteers.
- Receive, review, code, enter, and process invoices, bills, approved reimbursements, check requests, and vendor payments.
- Maintain complete vendor, receipt, credit-card, reimbursement, and supporting financial documentation.
Reporting, Budgeting & Payroll Support
- Prepare timely monthly financial reports for the Lead Pastor and Business Management Team (BMT), including income and expenses, giving, account balances, and Statement of Financial Position.
- Support the Operations Pastor and leadership team with annual budget preparation, capital planning, cash-flow planning, and requested financial analysis.
- Work with Human Resources to verify payroll information, payroll-related documentation, and appropriate fund transfers. (Lifehouse Church and Lifehouse Learning Center payrolls are both prepared internally by HR, processed by RKL and managed by ADP.)
- Coordinate with ministry leaders regarding designated funds, missions payments, honorariums, approved expenditures, and budget questions.
Controls, Compliance & Financial Continuity
- Establish, follow, and improve appropriate internal financial controls, approval processes, and written procedures.
- Prepare documentation and financial information required by the CPA for annual financial reviews, audits, tax-related reporting, or other professional review.
- Conduct or assist with internal financial reviews of Lifehouse Church, Multiply Together Network, and Network churches as directed.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical financial records in accordance with established retention and confidentiality practices.
- Maintain and continuously update a clear finance operations manual, checklists, calendars, and process documentation so essential workflows are repeatable and transferable.
- Preserve the efficiencies of streamlined finance processes while identifying responsible improvements that strengthen accuracy, service, and controls.
Collaboration & Service
- Provide accurate financial information and analysis to pastors, staff, and leadership as requested and appropriate.
- Communicate clearly and professionally when resolving discrepancies, obtaining documentation, or addressing financial process issues.
- Protect confidential donor, payroll, employee, vendor, and organizational financial information at all times.
- Perform other related financial and administrative duties as assigned.
Lifehouse Learning Center
- Provide oversight and support to Lifehouse Learning Center’s Operations Assistant. (The Operations Assistant job description is provided for review. The Operations Assistant position is currently filled and is managed by the Bookkeeper / Accountant.)
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
Education: Formal education or recognized training in Accounting or Bookkeeping (degree, certificate, or comparable coursework).
Experience: 3–5 years of accounting, professional bookkeeping, or closely related financial experience.
Accounting knowledge: Advanced working knowledge of bank reconciliations, general ledger accounting, month-end close, financial reporting, accounts payable, and cash management.
Software: Minimum 2 years of QuickBooks experience and strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Execution: Exceptional accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and ability to meet recurring weekly and monthly deadlines.
Schedule: Reliable Monday availability as part of the full-time workweek due to weekly contribution processing.
PREFERRED
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Certification: QuickBooks certification or comparable accounting credential.
Sector experience: Previous nonprofit, church, or fund-accounting experience.
Systems: Experience with CCB (Church Community Builder) or another church management software / donor-record system. (Note: Lifehouse Church is looking to move away from CCB within the next 2 years.)
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills and confidence working across teams.
Process improvement: Demonstrated ability to streamline finance workflows without compromising controls or documentation.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
