Position Summary:
The Journeyman Mechanic (B Tech) is responsible for performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, ensuring their safe and efficient operation. This position requires a solid understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to address and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. The Journeyman Mechanic will work independently or as part of a team, following industry standards and ensuring quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnosis & Repair:
- Perform detailed diagnostics on vehicles or machinery to identify issues with mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.
- Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and other essential components.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately troubleshoot complex mechanical problems.
- Maintenance:
- Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles or equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, fluid checks, and other services.
- Ensure all work is performed according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols to ensure the safe operation of equipment and the safety of coworkers and customers.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials and waste in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, parts used, and hours worked for each job.
- Provide detailed reports of repairs and inspections for management or customers, as needed.
- Teamwork & Collaboration:
- Work closely with other mechanics and technicians to ensure the timely completion of projects and effective problem-solving.
- Assist in training and mentoring apprentices or junior mechanics as needed.

Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited automotive or diesel technology program preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic, with a demonstrated ability to perform repairs on a variety of vehicle types or machinery.
- Certification as a Journeyman Mechanic or completion of an apprenticeship program (required).
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or similar credentials preferred but not required.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including engine performance, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and heating/cooling systems.
- Proficient in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment.
- Ability to interpret and follow service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy components and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
