LIFE SKILLS CHAMPIONS

Life Skills Coach — Young Adult Client

Los Angeles, CA | Part-Time | 20 hrs/week | $28–$36/hr

About the Role

Life Skills Champions is hiring a dedicated Life Skills Coach to work one-on-one with a young adult client (age 18) in West Los Angeles. This is a Monday–Thursday, daytime position (approximately 9 AM – 2 PM) with the potential to grow into additional hours as the program expands.

You'll be part of a growing coaching program designed to support young adults with developmental differences in building meaningful independence. The role blends daily living support, community integration, academic assistance, and vocational exploration — with a strong emphasis on relationship-building and real-world skill development.

What You'll Do

  • Provide one-on-one coaching across five core life skills areas: Independent Daily Living, Social Communication, Employment & Career, Community Navigation, and Health & Wellness
  • Accompany client to a college class (SMC), community outings, volunteer opportunities, and vocational exploration experiences
  • Support the development of daily living skills, including cooking, hygiene routines, executive functioning, and money management
  • Practice public transportation skills — bus, train, rideshare — as part of community navigation training
  • Facilitate social communication practice in real-world environments (coffee shops, stores, community events)
  • Support a light, mobility-focused fitness routine designed for a client with a history of spinal fusion (routine provided by a certified trainer)
  • Document sessions and contribute to progress notes and 6-month review reports
  • Collaborate with the client's family and program lead to iterate on goals every 90 days

What We're Looking ForRequired

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field — special education, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, human development, ABA, or similar
  • Experience working with young adults or adolescents with developmental differences, autism, learning disabilities, or intellectual disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills — with the client, family, and program team
  • Comfortable using public transportation and navigating the greater Los Angeles area
  • Reliable, punctual, and consistent — this role is about long-term relationship building
  • Valid driver's license, insurance and personal vehicle preferred (mileage reimbursement available)
  • Ability to pass a background check

Preferred / Ideal

  • Master's or Bachelors degree in special education, psychology, counseling, social work, ABA, or a related clinical field
  • Experience writing progress reports, IPPs (Individual Program Plans), or similar documentation for regional center or SDP (Self-Determination Program) participants
  • Familiarity with the California Regional Center system
  • Background in adaptive skills, community integration training, or supported living services
  • Experience supporting clients with physical mobility considerations (post-surgical, adaptive movement)
  • Interest in health & wellness, fitness, or adaptive movement

Who You Are

  • Warm, patient, and genuinely enjoy working with young adults
  • Creative and adaptable — every day looks a little different
  • Self-directed but collaborative — you take initiative and communicate proactively
  • Committed to seeing clients as whole people, not just goals on a checklist
  • Interested in growing with a small, mission-driven organization

Schedule & Compensation

  • Hours: ~20 hours per week, Monday–Thursday, generally 9 AM – 2 PM. Some flexibility around SMC class schedule and community outings.
  • Growth Potential: Opportunity to take on additional hours over time as the program expands, including potential Friday programming and additional clients.
  • Pay: $28–$36 per hour, depending on education and experience.
  • Mileage Reimbursement: Provided for client-related driving.
  • Training: Onboarding and ongoing support provided by the program founder.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief note about why this role interests you. Cover letter is optional but appreciated. Interviews will include a conversation with the program founder and a meet-and-greet with the client and family.
