Position Details:
- Financial Aid Advisor
- Salary Range: $70,304 - $75,000 annually
- Full-Time, Exempt
- 40 hours per week
- Fully Onsite Position in Hayward, CA
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for advising prospective students (primary), current students and alumni on financial aid eligibility, program requirements, application procedures, aid programs, repayment issues and related concerns. Advise prospective student tour groups twice a week providing an overview of the financial aid application process and available federal programs and scholarships.
- Troubleshoot and problem solve with FA staff on any complication in loans or financial aid issues. Assist Students in resolving credit issues and/or the endorser process.
- Track prospective student status, ISIRS, MPNs, Entrance Counseling and maintain excel tracking spreadsheets. Liaison weekly with Admissions staff and provide financial aid status updates and obtain enrollment updates. Coordinate communications with Admissions at a high level.
- Package federal financial aid (loans and federal work study) and incoming scholarships to prospective students ensuring compliance with federal regulations and school policies and procedures. As needed, award aid for current students. Certify private student loans. Quarterly, prepare student status letters for incoming class.
- Update the National Student Loan Database (NSLDS) monitoring alert list and monitor any changes affecting financial aid eligibility. Monitor transfer students closely (re: academic year overlaps) and resolve any alerts.
- Utilization of CAMS (college database) and federal websites - COD and NSLDS to research and resolve financial aid application/loan issues. Assist with importing COD files as needed. Run various CAMS queries to support processes and reports.
- Perform verification procedures including reviewing and reconciling financial aid applications and documentation such as tax returns, non-taxable income, etc. Resolve C Flags (social security number, Immigration, defaults) working with the student and the appropriate agency. Certify (review) all ISIRS and monitor document tracking. Assess and recommend professional judgement cases.
- Oversee scholarship board and outside scholarships, maintain accurate information (PowerPoint and website); create flyers, update applications and promote scholarships.
- Alternate VA Certifying Official for enrollment and eligibility certification for Veterans Educational Benefits and maintaining VA/State records.
- Maintain a complete and current knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures of financial aid programs and various Federal and State rules and regulations governing student loans.
- Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Financial Aid or the Director of Financial Aid.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required (a combination of relevant education and professional financial aid experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in financial aid or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and/or private loan programs
- Thorough understanding of federal financial aid regulations and programs
- Proficient in the use of financial aid management systems and general computer applications
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Strong organizational abilities, including the capacity to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through on assignments
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to accuracy and compliance
