Job Description: School Social Worker    ANTICIPATED

 

Assignment: 1.0 FTE (Full-time) 

 

Reports to: Special Services Department Co-Supervisors

 

Qualifications:

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Social Worker Endorsement 
  • Candidates with endorsements in any of the following will be considered:
    • Type 73 Certification
  • Previous high school experience preferred but not required
  • Experience working with high school students with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and social emotional disorders preferred but not required 

 

Employee status: Substitute position to cover extended parental leave

Characteristics:

  • Experience with providing social work service delivery & co-delivery with other related services & special educators to students with functional academic needs
  • Provide consultation and support to students with intellectual disabilities and their families in accessing community-based resources and services 
  • Strong written and oral skills necessary; ability to work under pressure; flexibility; demonstrate a commitment to professional growth in the area of special education service delivery and best practices in the field of social work; desire to actively collaborate when working with others
  • Experience in the use of functional assessments and behavioral intervention plans for students with intellectual disabilities and/or functional academic needs
  • Current knowledge and experience in working with students in Grades 9-12 with identified special education needs in a broad range of disability areas
  • Provide consultation to school personnel to identify students who should be referred for an individual case study evaluation or interventions in an RtI model
  • Provide support and consultation to parents of students with ID, ASD, and social-emotional disabilities 
  • Assist in assessment and plan of action development and maintenance including coordination with community linkages and agencies
  • Actively network with community resources including hospital, social service, police and private providers
  • Serve as a resource person for teachers, other colleagues, parents, and students 
  • Identify, conduct and explain the results of a variety of assessments appropriate for gathering necessary student functioning and background information, including: observation; interview; behavioral/personality; achievement and learning environment
  • Support case managers and special services programmatic teams by contributing to the development, implementation and monitoring of behavioral intervention plans through direct service, consultation, or development of objectives 
  • Support various school teams as needed for students returning from homebound/hospital, concussion, suspension or other reasons as necessary 
  • Provide immediate support for students who are at risk to self or others
  • Conduct crisis assessments and act as an active member of the crisis support team as needed
  • Consult with administration and Student Services Staff in providing immediate services and counseling for students and families in the event of a tragedy or violent event
  • Complete IEP-related reports in a timely manner, monitor student progress with counseling supports towards IEP goals, and facilitate the goal writing process
  • Provide specific group counseling and be aware of the latest models of social skills and communication training interventions for students on the Autistic Spectrum
  • Provide group counseling and individual student counseling for diverse groups of students with common special needs as related to IEP goal areas
  • Demonstrate high standard of integrity, honesty, and confidentiality in all interactions with students, colleagues, parents and community-members at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned
