JOB SUMMARY

This position is for a medical assistant whose responsibility is to provide direct care to patients receiving therapeutic and diagnostic services.  The position reports to the Chronic Care Clinical Supervisor.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1. Minimum level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of an approved medical assistant program preferred.  Basic life support (BLS) required.

2. Formal Training: Clinical competence as Medical Assistant preferred.

3. Licensure, Certifications & Registration: Certified Medical Assistant.

4. Work Experience:  Prior experience working in a hospital/healthcare setting preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsibility Focused

  1. Attends organizational and departmental orientation upon employment and completes annual update and health requirements thereafter and in accordance with timeframes specified by organizational policy.
  2. Demonstrates a working knowledge of and/or location of organizational policies and procedures as well as adheres to them.
  3. Exhibits a working knowledge of information management, confidentiality, patient/residents safety, corporate compliance and infection control.
  4. Possesses knowledge of reporting errors or near misses without fear or blame/punishment for reporting accidents/incidents.  Addresses and reports problems as they arise. 
  5. Completes required competencies, licensure, certification and registration recertification in a timely manner, as well as participates in continuing education.  
  6. Arrives to work on time, on scheduled days, during scheduled hours.  Maintains flexibility with work schedule in meeting the needs of the department.
  7. Provides age specific care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, system assessment and developing an interdisciplinary plan of care addressing culture, religion and ethnic preferences.
  8. Attends 75% of mandatory departmental meetings and in-services.
  9. Utilizes equipment and materials in a cost-effective manner.
  10. Participates in performance improvement activities.
  11. Serves as a preceptor in orienting and/or training new personnel.
  12. Follows chain of command whenever issues or problems arise which are beyond scope of practice.
  13. Performs essential job functions in an acceptable quantity and quality.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

  1. Collects patient assessment data as delegated by the physician within timeframe specified by protocol.
  2. Assesses patient for basic needs and contributes to the initial assessment and ongoing assessment of patients.
  3. Communicates and documents pertinent information.
  4. Utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach, to include other agencies, to plan for patient care.
  5. Utilizes an interactive teaching-learning process for patient education.
  6. Measures and documents accurately all vital signs, intake & output, diets, weights within specific time frame.
  7. Obtains pre-certifications. Authorizations and/or referrals as required by insurance protocols.
  8. Codes services provided by physician to ensure maximum reimbursement.
  9. Provides clerical support as needed.
  10. Handles, labels, stores and delivers specimens as specified by protocol.
  11. Administers medications and solutions in a safe timely manner.
  12. Inventories medications, supplies and solutions for expiration dates and maintains required logs. 
  13. Maintains quality control logs as outlined per provider specialty.
  14. Notifies patients regarding test results as directed by provider.
  15. Assist provider with all procedures, as needed.
