Lead Electrical Controls Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Controls Engineer to drive electrical controls and automation projects within the water and wastewater sector. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in industrial controls systems, AutoCAD Electrical, and PLC/HMI programming.

You will lead the design, programming, and commissioning of automation systems while providing technical direction, ensuring high-quality execution, and supporting successful project delivery from concept through startup.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical controls and automation systems
• Program and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems across project lifecycles
• Utilize AutoCAD Electrical to develop and review schematics, panel layouts, and documentation
• Provide technical leadership to engineers, designers, and field technicians
• Support control panel design, integration, testing, and startup/commissioning activities
• Collaborate with project managers, customers, and internal teams to ensure project success
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and automation issues during installation and operation
• Ensure compliance with NEC, UL508, and industry standards
• Assist with system optimization, upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support customer training and post-installation technical support as needed
  
  

Qualifications

• 5 years of hands-on controls engineering experience in industrial or automation environments
• Strong background in PLC/HMI programming and electrical controls design
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical (required)
• Experience in water/wastewater or similar process industries preferred
• Ability to lead technical efforts while supporting multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field (preferred)

• AutoCAD Electrical (advanced proficiency)
• PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
• HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols
• Knowledge of NEC and UL508 standards
• Microsoft Office Suite and related engineering tools
